im gonna be getting a laney soon and im gonna need something for a volume boost for my leads seeing how the vh100r doesnt have 2 master volumes..

the reason i want the mxr mc401 pedal is because it doest have any gain or anything, i dont want to alter my tone at all, i just want to just make it louder for my solos. what do you guys think of this pedal? how would i run it with my rig? in the loop or in front? also, if i were to get an isp decimator to get rid of the natural hiss of the laney on high gain settings, would that go in the loop or in front? does the isp make your volume any quieter at all like the noise gate on my g major or does it reduce the hiss with no other noticable problems?

If you want pure volume with no tone change, put that MXR pedal in your FX Loop. It looks like a good pedal, but for pure volume, virtually any clean boost pedal will get you there.

The ISP Decimator I've tested both in front and in the loop and I found it did significantly more in my rig in front. The ISP is the most transparent out there right now, however, it does have a knob on it so play with it a little bit to find what level works best for your rig (if you crank it too much, it will start to cut off the tail end of your notes just like any other noise suppressor/gate).

Re: question about the mxr mc401 and isp decimator

what would happen if i put the mxr in front just to simplify everything by running it in one chain?(because i have a wah pedal as well and i dont want to have to have wires going everywhere for live situations)

You will push the amp harder causing it to break up earlier... Not a clean volume boost then.

thanks guys.. just curious if i were to run things in the loop like a tuner and a looper pedal would that altermy tone at all even if they arent in use?
