question about wah-wahs and volume pedals ...

Heel Whacker
guys,

i just got a 535Q crybaby wah-wah pedal ... i've had my ernie ball volume pedal for a while now ... can i run these in the "effects loop" of my little fender deluxe 90 without harming them?

preamp out --> wah wah --> volume pedal --> power amp in

i dont want to hit them too hard with signal if it will blow them out ... i like the idea of having nothing between my guitar and the input of my amp except my 20' George L. ... this would also allow me to wah the overdriven signal instead of wah'ing the clean signal then overdriving it ...

thoughts?

thanks

ps - is it a law that the first song you have to (try to) play with a new wah is 'voodoo chile' :D

I don't see any reason you couldn't use them in the effects loop. Personally, I dislike the sound of a wah if its anywhere but immediately after the guitar, but hey.. you're not me :)

Whether its law to play "voodoo chile"... it damn well should be :)

I doubt you'll harm anything but it'll sound terrible...

Wah Wah's have to go between your guitar and the regular input on the front of your amp...not between the preamp and power amp.

The effects loop is only for certain line level devices like certain rack delays, etc.

Yeah, keep the FX loop for time modulation effects only.

Not to highjack the thread too much...

But would placing a significant boost in the FX loop be a means of producing power-tube saturation? Say if you really want the power-tube sound and aren't digging your preamp distortion? I realize this would greatly throw off the overall output volume of the amp...

Another "Yep"...

Re: question about wah-wahs and volume pedals ...

thanks guys .. will try it before and after to see which i like better ... i hope that putting them before doesnt kill the amp's responsiveness to subtleties in my right hand attack ... the cry baby instructions said that it is preferable to put distortion/fuzz type devices before the wah ... i get all my distortion from the drive channel of the amp, so i figured the loop was the only way to make that happen

we'll see .. at least i know i wont blow up the wah by putting it in the loop for the experiment

cheers
