Question for any Satriani buffs

Any idea what wah pedal Satch was using on Strange Beautiful Music? Listening to "You Saved My Life" and "What Breaks a Heart" I find he has a really killer wah sound. Hunting around there's a fair bit of info on the amps he used for that record, but nothing that I can find on the wah. I know live he's used a Dunop 535Q before, but he always seems to use different gear in the studio...

I know Satch uses the Fulltone Clyde wah also and I've also read about the use of the Crybaby...Satch is one of my favorites also and you have great taste! ;o)

He usually uses a Crybaby 535Q with the range set in the lower end of things, but he's been known to use vintage Crybabies, occasionally a Vox, and recently his live rig has an RMC Custom Wah in there too.

For those songs it sounds like his 535Q.

For those songs it sounds like his 535Q.

He's stated using the Fulltone wah and other Fulltone effects also.

I recall on the recent webcast interview he mentioned he is currently working on a series of signature pedals (can't remember who it was with) and that the closest to release was the wah, but I haven't heard much else about it. :scratchch

But a 535Q would work for the tones I'm thinking about? I've tried one a friend had but wasn't hugely impressed, but it was at a gig and through his amp, so I didn't really have the opportunity to tweak around. Thanks for all the advice, you guys and this board in general are great...

I don't see why a 535Q would NOT work. Its what he uses for a lot of his stage and studio stuff, and it IS a very tweakable wah so I'd advise really spending some time with one to get the sound.

Most of the stock Dunlop wahs are total crap...I'd opt for either the Fulltone Clyde or a Teese wah....You'll have alot less problems and longevity that way!I wonder if Satch's wahs are even stock also? :sad: :drive:

The Guitar Geek info must be a bit outdated his stuff there is listed as Joe's Gear, his web site says that it is outdated. But, it's interesting even if that was his previously used rig.

I read that he's working out an endorsement deal with Dunlop for signature picks, straps, and pedals.

Thanks for all the info guys, just checked his website and I guess live he's currently using the 535Q and an RMC Custom Wah. I'm leaning towards the 535 (tweakability is always good) but I've never heard an RMC before, so anybody have some experience using one? Also, is the 535 true bypass?

Yep.....I was just trying to show that he did use the Fulltone products...That site is from around 2000 or so from memory?

Mine isn't... it's a 535Q with a Fasel built into it. They offer that option now and IMO it's way worth it. Totally rips all over the base, stock models. Not that expensive, either!

I Know all about the 535Q and I've worked on a few also...I guess you get what you pay for as always,but my own modded wahs,the Teese,and the Fulltone stuff is going to hold up better over the long haul just in the way the circuit boards and the components that are used are better...The red fasel inductor is "ok" also,but you're missing out on a more vocal wah with better overall sweep because of the components the 535 lacks...If you're happy that's all that matters though.. :banana:
