Question for giging Hot Rod Deluxe players

I have to play a gig on Friday night. I've played with the Hot Rod before at gigs but never where it has been miced. The first couple of gigs I played wern't miced but I didn't know how to set up my pedals so when I'd turn on a pedal to do a solo it would be a lot softer than it was when I was playing rhythm, couldn't hardly hear it. I'm trying to set up my pedals so that it's the same volume when their on or off. I could only get it up to a 3 on the volume in my apartment before the RA told me to turn it down since they are right next door. Just wondering if you really crank the amp or keep it a moderate levels when it's miced. I know the sound guy adjusts off of you. It's going to be outside and is going to be a really good sound system not just a little pa. We are renting the equipment from OKC backup, $1000 for five hours and I think last time they brought 8 15in cabs, bunches of power amps and a huge mixing board. Only have 10 minutes of set up time so I don't want to have to be adjusting things up there and look like I don't know what I'm doing. Any advice will be appricated.

usually you set them so they're the same volume as whats comming out of the monitors, really pretty subjective

as far as pedals, set the volume knob so its the same as the amp's volume. if it doesn't have a volume knob, well, deal with it or get one installed

I set the volume loud enough to hear myself while everyone is playing. Think of it as a rear monitor. I recommend using a Shure SM-57 with a wind guard to mic it. Set your mic about 5 to 6 inches from the grill cloth.

Re: Question for giging Hot Rod Deluxe players

shure 57's will pick up the sound comming out of your amp & amplify it pretty much flawlessly

if you want a little more punch I'd go for a sennheiser e609, but you're spending a grand renting equipment, so im guessing you probably have the tone you want, so yeah, sm57

Re: Question for giging Hot Rod Deluxe players

I'm not really sure what mics they are using. They just have different sized price packages depending on how much you need. We got the same thing last year. I didn't play in it but it sounded fine for the other bands. The sound guys set up all the mics and stuff, all we do is plug in and play. Actually I don't have to pay for it, the college is, it's a "school sponsered event." It was supposed to be like something we did last year called The Best of the Bands. Gave away somewhere around $300 for a $40 entry fee. We just couldn't find enough bands this year to make the prize money worth it so we are just turning it into the Fall Jam and bands can just play for free. There are different bands playing every hour, when I read my previous post it sounded like we were playing for 5 hours.
