Question for the amp builders/techs

Is it possible to make a single channel amp 2 channel by using relays to switch between 2 sets of pots?
I have a jca2112rc, and saw the Weber channel switching board and had always wondered if it was that simple. I mean do I just disconnect the current 2 pots (gain and volume) and use this to switch between 2 sets of pots?
Would A and B on both pots be connected together (and to the amp) and then use the relay to switch the wiper connection between the 2?

I just want 2 of the exact same channel with different gain and volume settings.
I would use a toggle on the front of the amp and add a foot switch later.

Re: Question for the amp builders/techs

You can probably make it work but the switching noise will be very annoying...think huge popping noise whenever you switch channels. Most amps have a mute circuit that kicks in at the moment the switch occurs but the kit you show doesn't have that (nor do any that I know of). You are going to get more utility from setting your lower gain tone on the amp and pushing it with an OD that has an EQ in the ballpark of what you are looking for. The weber channel switcher works great if you are switching two indepenent channels somewhat late in the signal chain where a pop isn't so audible.

Re: Question for the amp builders/techs

The channel switching pop is generally eliminated in modern amps by using optocouplers. The popping noise actually isn't as annoying as you might think, it doesn't take too much practice before you learn to mute the strings the moment you hit the switch. As long as there isn't much sound going through the amp when you switch channels it will be basically inaudible. My Mesa Mark II has this sort of relay switching and it's been mostly a non-issue playing live. It would be annoying in the studio but easy enough to work around in post-production.
