That is a cement power resistor. Looks to be part of the power supply, used to de-couple stages of filtering. I can't read it, but the important things to know before buying a replacement are the resistance (ohms or K ohms) adn the wattage (watts).

maybe the 10W is 10 Watts??...and I'm not too sure if i'll get a reading with an Ohm meter now that it's blown:S

Sounds like you might have toasted your Output Transformer. How long did you try to play it with no speaker?

Re: Question For The Guru's HELP!!

turned it on...it went pop in about 30 seconds....then I turned it off..no guitar plugged in....the only daqmage I see is that Cement rectangular thingy:P

Re: Question For The Guru's HELP!!

i guess i missed the part where you said it was broken. Simple fix, pop a new one in. Rich is right, you need to use the right one. On those code numbers, the 10w at the end of that string indicates to me that its a 10 watt one. It looks like its serving as a choke maybe? If its a choke, it's probably not more than about 1K in value. Googling the numbers didnt' help.

Here's a 2 power tube version .... http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/720606_YBA2_AB.gif

Here's one that I'm not sure is your amp or not... http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/730528_YBM1.gif but it shows 470ohm 10 watt

Which Bassmate do you have? How many power tubes, reverb? tremolo?

This site has a lot of schematics. http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/traynorSchmArchive.html

Re: Question For The Guru's HELP!!

I'm betting that second one is close to his amp - in the pics, you can see the little yellow diodes making up the bridge rectifier.

Re: Question For The Guru's HELP!!

ok, those scematics do Nothing for me:P..I don't knoe Anything about amp stuff....Just guitar haha... it's a '73 Bassmate....2x12AX7 & 2x6BQ5(EL34 if i'm not mistaken).
other than that I just really need a Replacment part.....and I havn't a clue where or what to order if i can't get a Direct replacement..Scott I hope this helps you....I'd Really like to Get this amp Up and running again:)

Re: Question For The Guru's HELP!!

Just go to Mouser.com

Jeff, where did you see that? On the code? Do you just know the amp? Was it on that schematic?

Thanks.

Scott, what's up??... hope all is well with you :)

I have the schematic, a similar amp, but most notably if you follow the wire in the pics, you'll notice it goes to pin 9 on both EL84's. This is the screen grid and is always slightly lower than plate voltage. Whereas most amps will use a choke between the plate and screen grid, a resistor will also work. (see Yamaha T-100, Fender Bassman Ten schematics for examples). In reality, almost any 10 watt resistor from 470 ohm to about 2k will work fine for EL84's.

Traynor schematics of this era are difficult to isolate, due to constant changes. Interestingly enough, every amp Traynor made came with the schematic already inside the amp for just this reason, but few remain intact or left in there as it's affixed to a top plate that's a PITA to line back up when reinstalling the chassis. So most just get left out altogether over the years...
