Question: Long/short mounting legs

Are long mounting legs standard on the '59s, Antiquities & Seth Lover models?

I sold someone a set of 59s with long mounting legs and he wasn't pleased as they didn't fit his guitar. Despite a solid photo showing the legs I'm taking them back no problem, but I want to make sure I'm telling him the correct thing and not steering him wrong. Special ordering aside, if a person were to buy a set of 59s from say Guitar Center or Sweetwater new today, would they come stock with long or short mounting legs? A lot of other ebay folk don't photo the reverse of pickups and it would suck if this guy wound up having the same issue again when he buys them elsewhere. My understanding was that with those three sets you get long legs unless you special order.

And Is there anything indicated on the packaging to differentiate long vs short legs?

This is directed at people that are pretty sure, or recently bought a set...or if a Seymour rep is floating around that'd be great too.

thanks!

59s come standard with long legs. Hell, I tried to order one with a short leg and a logo at my dealer; they declined.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that was the case. I had this photo in the auction too (in good res):

I believe that you actually have to search for the short leg versions. I know I'm the past I have had to. I believe that the 4C version come with the short legs.

No. They don't.

Just tell them to get a real guitar and stop using Bullet and Affinity Squiers with their thin bodies...

:18:

Just kidding. No offense to those who rock out with the budget Squiers.

Actually, a good deal of guitars would have issues with long-legged humbuckers without some sort of modification to the body.

Re: Question: Long/short mounting legs

Yeah the long legs won't work for a lot of people.

It looks like I'm just going to ship him a black Jazz/JB set I had for sale once I get the 59s back, so it'll work out okay enough. He doesn't want to get into changing baseplates or hunting down short-leg '59s & I happened to have something else he liked worth the same thing.

Thanks for the help & answers

Re: Question: Long/short mounting legs

You can have any long-legged p'up as short-legged as a Custom Floor Shop, costing the same or just a few bucks more.

Big Authorized Duncan dealers like Banjo Mikez even stock'em.

HTH,

HTH,
I've ordered from Banjo Mikez before. Good dealer.

Re: Question: Long/short mounting legs

Funny I've ordered from him too, some white/black zebra DiMarzios. Nice guy but I got the AirNorton/TrueVelvet/TZ custom ordered to look like the RG3550 (poles on the outside) - and he or DiMarzio sent the neck backwards with poles inside like Petrucci, and a white cover on the middle pickup instead of black. But honest mistake and I was okay enough with the poles + had a spare black cover for the middle PU handy.

Like I said he was a nice guy & that goes a long way, would definitely order from him again. These DiMarzios OTOH can suck a goat

Re: Question: Long/short mounting legs

It sounds like the buyer's fault for not doing their basic research. Your photo even pretty clearly shows that the legs are longer. Seymour Duncan also releases the dimensions of their pickups. Here's the SH-1 dimensions, where it is pretty clear that the legs are roughly 1/4" longer than other pickups.

HTH,

And that's the problem I get here. The dealer here accepts Custom Shop, but NOT shop floor custom. I didn't explicitly asked them about this, but I have asked them if I could get a custom pickup made, and they told me yes; I asked if I could get a short-legged 59 with logo, and they said no.

Here in Italy the distributor would ask for Custom Shop prices for a short-legged '59n, PLUS at least six-month waiting time, all paid in advance.

Visit the ebay shop banjo mikez. He stocks *many* Custom Floor Shop items and I they ship internationally.
