Question on changing a pickup

Hello,

I'm changing a Dimarizo pickup to a Seymour Duncan in one of my Ibanez guitars. I figured since I found some good information here I'd post this question.

So I'm done my research and am ready for the swap. I'm just changing my bridge pickup
After de-soldering all the wires I came to the problem that the bridge and neck pickup grounding wire is twisted and soldered together. Although I already knew this it didn't really occur to me, how do I get this out?

Of course I could trim it, but I'd lose a decent amount of length of grounding on both pickups.

Would de-soldering braid fix this?

I know this is a bit of a random question but I want to try and do everything correct. I couldn't find any information on this particular issue

Thanks guys!

Re: Question on changing a pickup

welcome to the forum!

you can just unsolder the two wires

Re: Question on changing a pickup

Just hold some heat from the iron onto the solder on the wire and pull the wires apart when the solder turns to liquid.

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

I figured this as well, and tried pulling them apart while holding the iron there. They are braided so I'm not sure how well it will work.

I think a 3rd hand might help, I'll have to get a friend over maybe.

I'll let you guys know how I make out!

Re: Question on changing a pickup

It took an extra set of hands pulling the two wires while I held the iron.

It worked! Thanks guys
