Questions about the Marshall 1987x head.

Hey whats up, I've been looking through ebay for fun and was looking at the marshall 1987x 50 watt reissue I don't plan on buying it or anything, I've just heard a lot good about these and I had a few questions. is the loudness 1 high treble the gain control? and the loudness 2 the volume? I'm guessing this head doesn't have a master volume. and also as everyone knows these heads are famous for their cranked overdrive tone. If you had a thd hotplate or just cranked it open what kind of overdrive sound would it have? I'm guessing zeppelin, hendrix. by the way when using those hot plates when you crank the amp how loud is it then? so i guess buying a hot plate would be like buying a super expensive, realy good sounding overdrive?

hot plate makes it so you can get the sound of the head cranked.....and turn down the volume as super quiet as you want....... so your getting that tube grind at bedroom volumes if you want

but for me, i like the actual feeling of a 100 watter cranked, its such an experience man

First off, This thing is loud! I played it through a 1960a cab with my LP at a local shop and the volume was too much for me. It's a very very cool sound when cranked though. The loudness controls are just that, voulem. #1 is for the bright channel, #2 is for the normal channel. With this thing cranked and with the right guitar, you can do AC/DC, Cream, Skynard, pretty much any classic rock riff just jumps out of this thing. If only it were a quiter (and lighter) rig.

its not that I don't want to hear it cranked its just that because of where I live I wouldn't be able to crank it by any stretch of the imagination, except for at gigs, jams and such. It sounds awesome but it seems like it would just be a bit to big of a hassel, with the need of the hotplate for good sounds when not playing live, or the need for a distortion pedal. Not that I am gain, overdrive snob but I think something a little more versatile would make things easier. I still wanna try one out even though I'm dreaming. I plan on getting an avatar 2x12 in a few months and useing my dsl 401 as the head, then I'll have 3/4ths half stack(3 speakers) haha. maybe in a couple years I'll upgrade to one of those vintage reissue marshalls heads.
