I just bought a used PRS CE-22 where the previous owner changed out the PRS pickups and the 5-way rotary switch to a 59/JB combo with a simple 3-way toggle.
I've been considering trying out something else in the bridge or potentially even trying out the original Dragon II pickups (these were included in the sale).
Problem is that the wiring in the guitar seems to be totally different than the schematics out there for a 2-humbucker, 1-vol, 1-tone, 3-way switch.
I butchered one of the SD Diagrams to show how its currently wired up:
From some research I did, I can tell that the extra capacitor (the orange blob) is a treble bleed. Basically everything else seems to be backwards (note that I've swapped the Tone and Volume designations from the SD diagram).
Comparing the current wiring to the SD schematic shows a number of differences. Unfortunately I'm not experienced enough (or at all
) to tell if there's any impact resulting from these changes.
Could someone possibly compare my current wiring with the SD schematic and answer a few questions for me?
- Is this wiring having any negative effect on the guitar's tone or is it just an alternative way to wire it?
- Will this make it harder to change out the pickups?
- Would I be better off reinstating it as per the SD schematic?
- Anything else anyone could suggest?
