Questions....re: building pedals

Just a couple of questions.

What book(s) do you recommend for learning to building pedals? There seem to be a lot out there and I'd like to get the one that the most recommended.

If you have a schematic only (for anything, but think pedals for now) how do you convert that to a layout? Always wondered. Is it just experience or are there "rules" that are tried and true. Anywhere to get information on this topic?

Thanks

Dave

i learned from going to runoffgroove.com, diystompboxes.com, generalguitargadgets.com, smallbear, and others that those sites link.

most of those sites end up citing craig anderton's books at some point.

look at runoff groove's layouts and schematics to see how they do or don't seem to match up.

Thanks.

So the schematic to layout thing is mainly experience?

more personal preference; i think there are rules about not running certain things really close for noise purposes, but otherwise, you might follow a layout and realize you found it easier to run a jumper cable through a hole in the board and solder it on the other side of the board or something. as long as your signal path matches the schematic, it's all good.

For high speed digital circuits or high power circuits, you have to worry about things like trace to trace spacing for capacitance and crosstalk, creepage and clearance for safety, etc... For guitar pedals, it's not a big deal.
