Quick connections

PhatStrat

New member
I tried something unusual with my Fat Strat. I installed a new CC, and instead of soldering it in I got some insulated connectors from Radio Shack. They are crimped on to the wires from the switch/ground connectors, with another set crimped on to the pup wires. Now if I change out the pup I can just unplug it and install the same connectors on a new pup and plug and go.

Any comments, thoughts, downfalls to this type of setup?

Re: Quick connections

I used to work at the Shack and when guys were talking about some type of quick connect system this was the solution I presented. The only problem is that you might have a bit more hum. My only gripe is that they don't make them with decent metal.

Re: Quick connections

I do something similar with my strats. I use quick connects to disconnect the pickguard from the output jack. It makes switching pickguards, or removing a pickguard for some soldering work, a snap.

Re: Quick connections

Trailer connectors. USe em on Strats so I can swap pickguards in and out. the 2-conductor ones work like a charm for this but there are othe variations. Wal-Mart :)

Re: Quick connections

Cool. I knew better than to think I was the first one with this idea. I like the whole pickguard on a connector idea too. I'll do that one next!
