Quick questions for the Peavey gurus

A few quick questions...never owned a peavey amp


1) For those who own the classic 30/50 amps, is the internal speaker connected via a normal speaker Jack or is it a permanent affair (wondering if I can hook up my power brake or not without going to an external cab)

2) Anyone own/have any thoughts about the XXL combo? It's the 3 channel Transtube Combo. I played one last week but saw some features online I wasn't aware of that should improve the sound.

3) Reliability of Peavey amps....good, bad, so-so?

I own a Classic 50/212 and have owned the Clasic 50/410. The speaker connection from the speakers to the amp is via a 1/4" jack. I don't know about the other amps....

Don't the answer on the first few. My Classic 50 was a head only and I have never played an XXL but Peavey has excellent reliability. I did have some issues with a bad resistor grid on my XXX but it was fixed under warranty and I haven't had an issue since. My other 2 Peaveys were rock solid.

They have a forum on the Peavey website you can browse or ask specific questions on. Repsonses are usually pretty quick.

i have no experience with the classics, but i can tell you about the rest. Peavey's stuff is rock solid. they'll take a bullet and keep on going (well not quite but you get the picture). I have never been a fan of peavey equipment but i can tell you that the XXL is THE ONLY PEAVEY AMP I EVER CONSIDERED BUYING. It's that good.

Can't answer 1 or 2, but as for 3, I've been using Peavey amps for 6 years now and haven't had a single problem.

Anyone know if the Classic 30 has a normal plug in speaker wire/jack?

We play the Classic 50 212 onstage and the 30 112 in labs here at Atlanta institute of Music. I have grown accustom to them and have come to appreciate their tone. I am pretty sure the 30 has a phono jack as well, we always dig around in the schools amps as though we are qualified techs or something.

As far as the XXL goes, I am not that impressed with it, personally! I DID like it until the XXX finally arrived at the local shop. Once I played it, the difference was obvious. With the real tubes from the XXX, the guitar and amp were communicating. That is, they were talking to each other.... The XXL was simply amplifying the guitar. All things considered, I dropped the XXL 212 from my list of potetnial purchases and added the XXX 212. If you wait a few months, the JSX 212 is supposed to be presented to the NAMM in JAN. By Feb, the price of XXX's should go down some.

peavey's are nice amps, not the best or ultimate in tone, but the classics do have a sweet pristine and fat clean tone.

It's an excellent alternative for someone who doesn't have the know-how to fix up an old original fender twin off ebay. And the new classic 50 has a pretty nice distortion channel, i have the really old school 'classic' '75 peavey and the 6L6's sing with the reverb. The new ones are el84 though, can't comment on that.

I like the clean bass response and roundess of the 6l6 peavey classic of old, a well driven el84 would have richer upper mids i suppose, not as much as a good old el34 amp though. An excellent mix.
