Quick Trem Advice - URGENT (Well, Kind of)

Hey,

I've just moved from .9's to .10's on my Strat. I've noticed that the trem is pulling more "out of" the body. Now, I know that I can either tighten the screws in the back cavity or add another spring. I've got 3 springs on there now, by the way. Is it alright (for the guitar, I mean) to tighten the screws a bit or should I hold on and get another spring.

If getting a new spring is the case, does it matter what size/strength I get. Are they even graded in strenghts, or is it a "one size fits all" thing with the Strats?

Please help me out.

BTW, this is "urgent" only because I gotta go to bed soon to be up tomorrow, and it's going to keep me up 'til I know.

I change from 9's to 11's on a strat I used to have all the time and never had any problems like that. I would add another spring and see what that does. Other than that I havent a clue. Good luck tho.

Tightening the screws it what i did in my strat when i changed the shop 9's out for 10's and it was all good afterwards.

Floating trem or flat on the body?? If it´s flat, that´s why you don´t notice, because the trem can´t go anywhere ;)

Yeah, you have to tighten the screws AND keep tuning it together to find that balance between the tug-o-war going on between your strings and your springs.

Springs are pretty universal and you might find you like adding a 4th one.

Unless you actually use the trem, I'd block it off by wedging a piece of wood in the back of the cavity and add springs in the back to have all 5 springs pulling. It's as solid as a non trem bridge, yet still gives a slight airy, almost reverby tone because of the springs.
