Actually, the volume and tone controls in both diagrams look the same to me. Just omit the volume kit R/C network and they're both the same. The blender pot gets soldered to the switch so it doesn't affect the wiring of the volume and tone control.
When I do this wiring, I'll often connect the tone control to the middle terminal (output) of the volume pot rather than to the other terminal (input) of the volume pot. That's called the 50's mod because some 50's Les Pauls were wired that way. I like it better sometimes...it helps retain highs when you turn the volume control down.
You should try it both ways. Actually, all three ways: with the volume kit, without the volume kit and without the volume kit but with the tone control connected after the volume control = to the middle terminal (output).
I like a .02 tone cap. I don't know whether that .002 value in a diagram is a typo or not.
