Quick wiring question...

I've been comparing two wiring diagrams, one is a 3 single coil/1 Vol/1 Tone/1 5-way switch diagram, and the other is the diagram for the "blender mod" described to me earlier. I'm confused by the use of different lugs between the two diagrams, are they interchangeable? (Can I use the lugs as shown in either diagram and still do the blender mod or do I need to use the layout shown in that diagram for it to work properly)

Actually, the volume and tone controls in both diagrams look the same to me. Just omit the volume kit R/C network and they're both the same. The blender pot gets soldered to the switch so it doesn't affect the wiring of the volume and tone control.

When I do this wiring, I'll often connect the tone control to the middle terminal (output) of the volume pot rather than to the other terminal (input) of the volume pot. That's called the 50's mod because some 50's Les Pauls were wired that way. I like it better sometimes...it helps retain highs when you turn the volume control down.

You should try it both ways. Actually, all three ways: with the volume kit, without the volume kit and without the volume kit but with the tone control connected after the volume control = to the middle terminal (output).

I like a .02 tone cap. I don't know whether that .002 value in a diagram is a typo or not.

Yeah I'll be using a .02 tone cap, and I won't be using the volume kit (basically just a high pass filter correct?) What threw me off was the way the tone controls are wired up in the diagrams. In the top one, an outside lug has the capacitor and the middle is sent to volume, on the lower diagram it's the other way around.

You're right. I didn't catch that. Doesn't matter though...they're electrically the same. You could also use the cap to bridge the volume and tone control like Gibson does and it would still work the same.

Does the blend pot not need to be ground? I just noticed that too...
