Quickie on ground wires

hello-
quick thing

I have a pickup I'm going to uninstall (SD Screamin Demon) where it looks like the guy soldered the green to ground =separately= from the bare wire. The bare wire is soldered to this little metal casing around the wires connecting the pots to one another.

so separating them is very wrong, right?
I mean right now the pickup hums and makes noise like a single coil next to a computer monitor :smack:

From what I've just read here, the green and the bare should be soldered =together=, then to the back of the volume pot for grounding. I am installing my new Custom Custom tommorrow.

thanks

Re: Quickie on ground wires

I suppose they would be best together but, As long as they are both soldered to a groung it should be fine (that is if somehow the two different grounds are connected somehow, you could check the continuity between the two ground locations, with the pickup unsoldered, to see if they are connected). About the hum, I have seen guitars that have been wired properly hum near a computer. Shielding is a good solution to this.
