Quieting the Beast

Has anybody tried the shielding on guitarnuts.com "Quieting the Beast"? I have using Antiquity Surfers, and it's awesome! The pickups are dead quiet now, like Emg's. Just wondering if anybody else tried because everybody's alway's saying how noisy passive sc's are

Re: Quieting the Beast

I use stewmac shielding paint. Usually about 4-6 coats on cavities for single coil guitars. The only downside is that some people get so used to the noise that they think that their pickups don't sound as hot as they used too. The reality is that the noise is gone. You can play much louder and with higher gain.

It works wonders. I've done it to a few guitars and will be doing it to another soon.

Re: Quieting the Beast

I have done three strats now. I prefer to use 3 heavy coats of Stew-Mac shielding paint followed by copper tape. Overkill to a high degree but I don't there is no downside and the paint gives a nice uniform surface for the tape to stick to.

These pics are from the last strat I did, an 02 MIS strat that I put Suhr V60LP pickups into.
