Quilted Maple Tops.

Re: Quilted Maple Tops.

it really depends on the thickness of the top. It will effect the tone somewhat but the thicker the top the more it will effect the tone. A veneer will not help brighten up a mahogany guitar but a 1/4 inch or more will.

Are you thinking of getting or making a guitar with a quilt top? if so tell us what kind and how thick the top is. There are plenty of very knowledgable guys here and they can tell you more than I can.

Re: Quilted Maple Tops.

I'm looking at the ESP Ltd EC-1000. It has the See Through Black Cherry quilted maple top. I don't know how thick it is though. Maybe someone does though. :)

Re: Quilted Maple Tops.

there are a few guys here that have them i think, they should be able to tell you. From what i know about that guitar, it is a lot like a les paul but the body wasn't as thick on the ones i played. Basically it will be brighter than most les pauls but still a very good sounding and playing guitar. put some ducans in there and you will be all set.

Re: Quilted Maple Tops.

Mrf is right: These are thinner than a regular LP. It is nonetheless a great sounding/playing guitar. It is pretty heavy sounding, regular mahogany guitar sound but might not be as deep as a LP tone. They come stock with EMGs or Duncans so you're set... As far as the maple cap goes, I'm not sure it is thick enough to make a difference tonewise, it's pretty much there for the looks (nice look I might add)... It's just a great guitar anyways so get it... NOW! :)
