Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

I'd talk you out the MP1. We have an MB1 (same idea, for bass) that has amazing, superb, incredible, world-beater and some tone, it is flexible, MIDI-switchable, 7th heaven unit but the F:cussing:N foils-switch (yeah the same construction that you can find in hyper-cheepo TV remote controllers) front panel broke and there is no replace parts on the Earth anymore. It's been half a year back from now that the MB1 was taken to the best MIDI/tube repairsman here I know and he still can't say it's reliable because as soon he solves a problem, an another comes around because of time-worn electric components. F:cussing:K. One thing is sure: it wasn't made for the day after tomorrow

Yeah, ADA tone is heavenly. I have a friend here (Sanya of Watch My Dying) who has the same MP1+50/50 configuration you wanted and yeah he has superb tone, with the side-note that his unit spontaneously turns itself off during the gigs a couple of times (the same foil-switch problem I guess but his one doesn't freeze itself like ours do). So, if you want a superb-sounding unit with rhapsodic reliability, go for it. Otherwise, I would recommend the JMP-1 or any of the superb units that the guys have mentioned. You can add the Hughes&Kettner Access preamp to the list, it has the same sonic performance as the TriAxis, for the fracture.

Or, buy three MP1s, one for use, one for backup and one for replacement parts ;)

I have a Peavey Rockmaster (which some folks here recommended) and I love the tone I get from that thing. Combined with my Mesa 50/50 Power Amp it sounds quite nice.

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

I use a Marshall 9001 tube pre(3channels + EQ) with a Mesa 20/20 and love it! The 9001 can be hard to find(especially the footswitch) but I think it's really versatile and great sounding.

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

i was hoping you'd talk me into selling the jmp and getting a modded ADA...
this sh1t is getting expensive

This is the wrong place on the Interwebz to ask for "get rid of <gearthing>" advice :D

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

I had a ADA way back in the day....I really didn't care for the sound and it just sat around. I don't even know what happened to it!

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

The ADA MP-1 is the best sounding thing I've come across. Especially with the 3 tube mod, it's almost identical to a modded Marshall JCM800 2203 I played once.

It's easy to repair by just going to adadepot.com

I own (3) MP-1's and they kill all, especially for Metal tones

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

JMP 1 no contest.

Back when those things were new I had an ADA and it was an awful, plastic sounding thing that had some really obnoxious frequencies I couldn't dial out, and a feel I didnt like either. When the JMP1 came out I bought one and never looked back, it sounds light years better and the feel is just like plugging into a good tube head, the ADA never was.

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

I've just obtained Vivian Campbell's rhythm and lead JMP1 settings if anyone's interested.

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

I have a Voodoo Amps modded ADA MP-1 that I might be willing to unload if anyone's interested.

Re: RACK PREAMPS - ada or jmp-1??

hey guys, thanx so much for the responses!

do any of you have clips of the JMP-1 in action?
theres a few on the net, but they are 'direct in' to a computer and they sound.....not so good!
i wanna see how it interacts wit tube poweramps

thanx again,
Ishan

Yep got a JMP-1 clip for you. This is from my old hairband days in the mid 90's with Ascension. Recorded in 1995 and I was running a JMP-1 and a 9300 Marshall Power amp in the studio for all of the guitars on this track with a Marshall Silver An 2/12 on one side with 75's and a Soldano 2/12 with Vin 30's on the other.
