Rack Recording setups?

Hey guy

My friends band are planning on buying some recording stuff and to thme this here http://www.digidesign.com/products/digi002rack/ seemed like the most attractive.comes bundled with Pro Tools LE and a bunch of other software.They are also planning on getting an Ibook of somekind for the actual recording.
Now equipment-wise they're really not too sure what there looking for but for what they want to do,this here seems like something that will do it for them,as you can record 8 seperat tracks at a time and have the convienience of having it on a computer interface as opposed to a multitrack recorder.

So what im asking here is there anything that you guys would know of that can record 8 tracks onto computer for later mixing that would be in the price range of about €1200 (not including the computer)?
I also see that that particular rack uses firewire, so what additional dealys and gizmos would they need for to connect the Rack to the Computer (assuming the computer does not already have a firewire port)?

There's also the presonus firepod which is about half the price of the digi002 and does 8 tracks at once. I forget the name of the tascam stuff similiar to the digi002 but its much less as well. If your computer doesn't have a firewire port you just have to buy a firewire card and your set.
