Refurbished Amp Day
Got the Carvin XV-112 on eBay for cheap, "parts only not working."
Replaced the old capacitors - put new tubes in it - installed a reverb tank - built a cabinet - covered with tolex = killer amp -
4 EL34, 3 12AX7
100 watts
select 4, 8 or 16 Ohm speaker
RMS power level adjustable
Loop level adjustable
Clean and Overdrive channels
Sound incredible! 1981 was a good year for this Carvin amp

Re: RAD - Carvin XV-112

Very nice. So you turned the combo into a head. How did you bias it for EL34's? Don't the originally come with 6L,6's? I ask because I once tried to set the bias on my XV212 only to find a fixed resistor instead of a trim pot.

No need to bias for EL34s, those are the standard tubes for it.

Interesting. Mine came with 6L6's. I wonder what year Carvin switched?

Re: RAD - Carvin XV-112

Mine is EL34 from 93 or 94. I think they went from el34 to 6l6 back to el34. Still, all the mojo is in the fuzzy carpet, not the tubes. Tweed and oxblood is like making it change its name to Toby.

Ever try to find thwt fuzzy carpet? Couldn't so it was stainmaster or tweed, chose tweed and it's name is now toby or moby or knoby...
