Rails pickups designed for use with 250k pots?

Since they are designed to drop in a strat, were they designed around the fact that most of these guitars use 250k pots?

Re: Rails pickups designed for use with 250k pots?

Good question. I have little experience with rails and have always wondered that.....

Re: Rails pickups designed for use with 250k pots?

Well, I've always used the Rails pickups with 500k pots since they are true humbuckers. They work great for me in that application. Of course, the only real way to know if you like them better with 250k or 500k is try them with both. Remeber, tone is a subjective thing. Proof: a lot of people like the JB.

Re: Rails pickups designed for use with 250k pots?

I've always used 500k pots and to me the Rails pickups sound very "dark", it might be too much so with 250k pots.

I've never tried a Hot Rails, but I like my Cool Rails and Vintage Rails with 250's. Makes them a bit smoother in my setup. (SS with studio monitors.)

I think they were designed to work with standard 250K Strat pots. But alot of guys prefer 500K pots to brighten them up a little...same thing for the JB JR. However, you'll also brighten up the tone of the neck and middle single coils and that may or may not be desireable. Lew

hot rails sounded fine with my 250k pots. It was hard to notice a change in tone when using the tone knob tho...i'd get 500k if i wanted a more diverse rig.

Re: Rails pickups designed for use with 250k pots?

i tried the little 59 neck, jb jr bridge, hot rails neck, middle and bridge all with 500K and 250k pots and they all sound better and less muddy to me with 500Ks for sure. i have a temp jb jr in a strat bridge now with 250k and it sounds pretty blah to me. it's a bit muffled like it's trying to reach its sound potential yet has a blanket over it.

so, 500Ks IMO.

Re: Rails pickups designed for use with 250k pots?

I have a Cool Rail at the neck, a Cool Rail bridge pickup in the mid and a Hot Rail at the bridge with 250k push/pull pots for split. It is suggested by Duncan. They don't sound dark to me at all in any combination. I am thinking about switching the Hot Rail to some more twangy pickup though, because it doesn't have any character IMO.
