Randall amps / switchable preamps

Does anyone have any experience with these?

I'm thinking I might get one that has the blackface preamp running through 6L6s, and maybe one other preamp. How good or bad do they sound?

i was considering buying one, but they didn't have it out for demoing. i'm very curious how those things sound.

That's really stupid! They've (the PreAmp module Amp and all) been out for a few years now, haven't they?

In any case... "most" think of the Randall as a hard-rocker amp. About five years ago, I was convinced that a tube amp would do what I wanted for tone ("Classic Rock" and so forth with a few excursions into a harder sound). After seeing the prices of new ones, I started lurking around ebay... where the prices of the "good" ones simply astounded me (I had a 1986 Roland Jazz Chorus 55 that I'd bought new for something like $250-$300).

I finally found a 1993 50W Randall Tube Pro II (or is that Pro Tube II?) for $325. Two-channel, B-M-T for each channel, Reverb, Presence, Gain, Level, Mstr Vol, 12" Spkr, Standby, 1/3 Pwr Sw, C.B. instead of fuse (nice feature) and switchable from 6L6 to EL34 Power Tubes (2), (3) 12AX7's. REALLY awesome sound on both channels. Exactly what I was looking for, heavy as... #%$#% though. The clean wasn't quite as clean and "sparkling" as the JC55... but, then... I had the JC55.

My point is, Randall does make some good, solid tube amps. Don't know that I'd buy one sound unheard though. Just two cents from Charlotte.
