What do you guys think of Randall amps...both SS and the ones with the interchangable modules?...I'm looking for an amp that's got killer distortion and good cleans at mid-to-lower volumes...thanks for the help.

they use them, but with rat pedals, which i highly reccomend if you're getting a randall

incase you're wondering, one guitarist uses '59s & the other uses p-90's, both in alder guitars

Re: Randall Amps...

I own the RG100SC, it's a 100W solid state 2x12 combo with Celestion 70/80ies. Great amp for the price with some of the best SS cleans I've heard. It's quite warm. It has an Accutronics reverb tank which sounds very nice.
I don't like the distortion channels much, they have a brutal voicing but not enough gain to play metal or heavy rock. I got some killer tones out of it using a distortion pedal.
Build quality is good, made to take on the road. I have no complains other than screws coming loose a couple of times and the fact that it's quite heavy.

I played the Recto and Blackface module in a RM50 (the 1x12 combo) in a store and I was impressed with the blackface but not with the recto. It didn't seem to have as much gain as I expected but I only played it at low volumes so that might have been the culprit. Sounded pretty good though! I almost bought the 100W head but I ran into a better deal. I think Randall makes some pretty good amps with nice features for reasonable prices.

Hope this helped.

Re: Randall Amps...

Great distorted tone. Edge played one on the Achtung Baby and Zooropa sessions for the heavy stuff like the Fly and Zoo Station track(s).......

Re: Randall Amps...

Superjoint Ritual had two guitarists with two Randalls into four 8x10 cabs when I saw 'em...and I've yet to find a band do metal better than SJR...
