Next Monday I'm getting a Jackson Kelly1 Marty Friedman Signature.
In December Probablly I'm getting a Boss MT2 MetalZone.
And Later sometime around April- I'm getting probablly a VOX AC30 amp. I guitar teacher brings it to the class and it sounds killer.

Oh ya I play heavy/trash/speed/thrash metal/neo classical/and shred.
I play alot of Becker's, Friedmans, Hammets, Yngwies, Angelo, etc. Oh ya and alot of Megadeth. So will those suit whatever I play (I'm talking mainly about the amp because I know the Kelly1 and the MT2 are perfect for the sound I'm looking for- I'm just concerned about the amp)?

Re: Rate my future setup:

oh.. well.. i wouldnt ge the metal zone.. never liked it's tone. if you like it it's ok, but i'd definately replace it with a digitech X series pedal

the friedman kelly sig has the one pickup or is the HH setup? i abhor single pup guitars

A Jackson Kelly through a MT2 through a... Vox AC30???

That's like me using a Tele to play deathcore music :laugh2:

Don't worry about the amp, the MT2 will color your tone so much that you might as well use a keyboard amp to get the same quality tone.

The Vox IS a killer amp, but it doesn't naturally get shred or neoclassical, it's definitely a bluesy, light rock, warm vintage clean type amp. It's one of my absolute favorite amps, but if you like Marty Friedman, the Crate Blue Voodoo is perfect (he uses it himself) and A LOT cheaper.

Re: Rate my future setup:

Yeah, for the sound you want, I'd switch out the MT-2 and AC-30 and get a Marshall JCM, Peavey 5150 or XXX, or some other kind of high gain half stack.

Re: Rate my future setup:

marshall jubilee YUMMMMMM!!!!! followed by the JCM800
i'm kinda looking towards blue voodoo's myself now as i've heard a clip by gothmetalshredder and the tone is very nice!

Re: Rate my future setup:

BTW, if anyone wants or needs a Crate Blue Voodoo 60 or a VC 50 head, theres a shop here in town that has a couple of clean used examples hovering at around $350. PM if you guys are interested.

Re: Rate my future setup:

lol are you kidding me about the Marshalls and Peaveys. I'm low on cash but how much does the Crate Blue Voodoo cost? I'm looking for something at the maximum price of the VOX AC30. Thanks.

lol i though the same. I'm not saying don't get the Vox, because we all know it is a great amp, and it could be interesting hearing you shred through it, but if you are looking for the traditional thrash metal sound im not sure if a vox will get you there. Basically just try before you buy, for this sort of money you wanna be getting that tone just right before you even consider giving them money for the gear.

Re: Rate my future setup:

Yeah but what I'm saying is once my guitar teacher brought a USA Kelly and put it through the Vox, and it sounded Killer. But I'm still not sure. Didn't try the MT2 yet. Oh ya and BTW The Kelly I'm getting has 2 SD humbuckers. Thats the only modifacation. So if it is possible please someone tell me how much a Crate Blue Voodoo costs and should I get that insted of a VOX.

There you go.

Re: Rate my future setup:

umm.. if you think 350 for an amp is much, you wont get anything good.. the AC30 is beyond 350 in ways you cannot imagine (unless your teacher will make you a good offer)

Re: Rate my future setup:

Yeah add another zero to that $350 and you'll get like one good vintage AC30 or one new handwired one... you must be thinking of one of their Valvetronix amps which are similar to Line 6 flextone II's.

The Jackson is a killer axe... we had a 1-pickup non-trem KE1 n GC one time and it was a fabulous guitar.

If you did get the MT2 I would have it modded by Keeley to get a much better sound out of it. Ideally I'd go for a G2D Morpheus.

As for the amp... for 350 you'll have to do some research to find an amp that is a good platform for the sound you're after. Blue Voodoos and Peaveys are good starts. If my assumption is correct and you're using the Amp as clean power and all the gain is coming from the MT2 I personally would recommend a Marshall Valvestate VS100R head and a small 4x12 cab. If you're looking to go combo, combo versions of it can be found as well. Marshall doesn't make them anymore but they can be found on ebay for cheap (i got one for $200 one time) and I've never gotten a bad sound out of one.

Re: Rate my future setup:

well if u can't afford that you could get a second hand Marshall JTM30 like me. It's kind of vintage marshall standard although you can get some pretty good distortion but its kinda Guns 'n' Roses with full gain but stick in a decent pedal and it can handle any amount of fuzz/distortion/OD you can throw at it. Also all valve :) . Any way i picked mine up for £230 on ebay although ive seen loads that people start at 250-300 and they aren't selling so maybe you can give them an offer or something. Hope this helps a bit.

I will second this... look for a JTM60 or JTM30 combo amp. They've got a lot of vintage Marshall vibe in a small cool-lookin' box. I found one in Petaluma and if my folks had not been with me I would have baught it on the spot!

By the way... APB_4 ; Welcome to the Forum! :headbang:

Re: Rate my future setup:

OMG you're getting a KE1?!! That's like one of my most wanted guitar :32: . Please don't tell me it's got a Quilt/Flame maple cap, I'll die if you say that :blackeye:

Tell you what, you sell the Kelly to me, and I'll get you the money for a good tube amp and with that extra 300 or so (don't know how much you've got) you can get a really shreddin' axe!

If you aren't interested, I'd suggest you save up a little more and get a Laney GH50 or something. Those things rock, Paul Gilbert uses them too!
