Hey guys, another thread (a long time ago) inspired me to do this.

I need a bit of input for pickup choices and coming to you guys would be definately the best idea.

Here are the combinations. Will work?/won't work? Have a better idea? Comment. Don't pick the best one, but comment on all of them (to your knowledge, anyway)

Jazz neck/JB bridge in a set neck mahogany guitar
probably don't need to comment on that one. it is Seymour's favourite combo :p

'59 neck/Dime bridge in a bolt-on alder guitar, rosewood fb, with piezo

Full Shred neck/Custom bridge in a mahogany guitar (EC model, specifically)

Seth Lover neck/Custom Custom in a mahogany guitar, rosewood fb

Hot Rails neck/Jb Jr. neck/Hot Rails bridge in a bolt-on alder guitar, maple fb

Ant II Surfer/Ant II Surfer/Ant Texas Hot Custom in a swamp ash guitar, maple fb.

Input would be very appreciated...

The JB/Jazz is a given. I use 'em in two of my mahogany guitars together and they are a great duo as Seymour says. Together they really balance each other out well; the JB with it's massive output and high'end tones, and the Jazz with a more subdued attitude that tames the JB.

Can't comment on the Dime pup but the '59 would sound good in the neck of just about any guitar.

Full Shred/Custom: I've been even considering this one in an Epi LP Standard I have. I have a feeling they would sound good together in a mahogany body with the Shred giving the neck position better highs and cleaner output than the Jazz, '59, or PG I've used in Pauly necks. Joe Perry uses a Full Shred in one of his Paulys. Wish I new what song(s) he used it on.

Can't comment of the CC/Seth combo....never used 'em.

Hot Rails neck/Jb Jr. neck/Hot Rails bridge in a bolt-on alder guitar: I'm not so sure about having the JB Jr. in the neck or middle position. I think I'd try SSL-5's and/or SSL-3's in it before the Hotrails. I have used the JB Jr. in the bridge of a Strat and didn't like it 'cause it sounded too shrill. But in some other Strat it might sound different altogether....better. Maybe in the neck or middle it might not be so bright, but I've never tried it there. The Little '59's might be more suitable if using a complete set. They both have ceramic magnets. I've used Classic Stack and Hot Stacks and could never quite tweak 'em enough to get the tones I wanted. They were too thick in structure for the cavity in my MIJ Strat....I couldn't lower them enough.

Ant II Surfer/Ant II Surfer/Ant Texas Hot Custom in a swamp ash guitar, maple fb: I think STRATDELUXER97 did something similar if not exactly in one of his Strats and likes it alot. I use Antiquity Texas Hots and a ATH-Custom in the bridge of one of mine and am of the opinion that they are the best sounding single coils I've ever heard in a Stratocaster. I've tried quite a few different Duncans but they don't come close to the excellent tones that the Antiquity pickups can produce. As far as the Surfer or the Texas Hot models, it just depends on what kind of music you'll be playing with the guitar. If you want a D. Dale kind of sound ( the forum won't let me spell out the name Di*k), the Surfers are probably the way to go. Probably good for old Beach Boys stuff, too, but STRATDELUXER would have more insight on that than I would.

Just my $.02 on all those pups you listed
....Bob
