raw brass pickup covers

I'm looking at putting another set of SD Seths into a guitar I'm building. All of the other hardware is brass, so I'm wondering what the best way to match the pickup covers would be. Should I go with nickel plated covers and sand them? Maybe take them off and soak them in something acidic? Or is there anybody out there that offers replacement covers in brass? Right now, I'm leaning toward buying an extra set of plated brass covers and experimenting with them first.

ive never tried it but i believe brass covers may cut a bunch of high end

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that most nickel covers are actually nickel plated brass. What I don't know is how much the nickel contributes to their strength, ie if removing it would make them too thin or brittle.

a thin nickle silver cover is fairly transparent on a pickup. Brass covers are different and generally reviled.
