Re-fret vs. fret dressing on a Japanese Strat reissue (50s)

Re: Re-fret vs. fret dressing on a Japanese Strat reissue (50s)

Interesting -- I had no idea. That said, if I order a new Warmouth neck, is it as simple as me unbolting the current neck, swapping them, bolting the new one on, and switching over the tuning machines (oh and adding a vintage Fender decal ;) ?
Or is it something I should be bringing to a luthier, having frets polished or whatnot...?
If it's the former, then I think that's the way for me to go.

it can be that easy ...

you'll need to be sure that the neck pocket is the same as a USA to get a good fit.

you'll need a nut shaped.

then it's all about getting it set-up well .. and that can be a hassle for some .. and a breeze for others

It says "original contour body" if my memory is serving me correctly. does yours say Squier? Mine does not.. do we have the same guitar?

as I read more on the Warmouth web site, I realize I then need to get the neck finished (I'd like vintage gloss). They say "Note: Finish is not removed from the frets of maple necks. This is usually done during the fret leveling operation."

Does that mean that I need someone to remove sticky lacquer from my frets after I install it? Also, aesthetics aside, would it matter if I used a 21 or a 22 fret neck?
