real time CD recorder?

hey guys

i am interested in buying a CD recorder that records a line in stereo signal in real time .. kinda like the good ol' days when you could pop a blank cassette into a recorder and record your band live ... two mics each going into a preamp and straight into the recorder ... push 'record' then 75 minutes or so later, you are listenin' to your band in your car on the way home from practice to hear what sounded good and what didnt ...

do these exist in the CD world? do they work well? do they cost an arm and a leg?

thanks in advance for any help

cheers

Re: real time CD recorder?

they do exist, my dad owns a cd duplicator which will record directly to a CD in real time, however I forget who makes it. I'll try and check for you later on.

Re: real time CD recorder?

A friend of mine had one, and used it for exactly the situation you describe. It worked really well. I'm not sure of the brand or anything, but I'd imagine they're "affordable", as all the rest of his studio gear is :)

Re: real time CD recorder?

thanks guys

i found a discontinued TEAC model for about $200 and a sony for about $300 ... there are expensive ones (e.g. a marantz for $700) that look nice but are way out of the question

time to hit ebay .. santa shops there right? :D
