Really low volume on low input

When I play through the Low input on my Laney AOR 50 it is pretty darn quiet. I mean, I can dime the master and the preamp controls and easily tolerate the volume. Plugging into the High input gives drastically louder volume, much more in line with what I would expect from a 50-watt amp.
I had a Laney Pro Tube 100 that acted the same way. So...is this normal for these amps? Everything else operates just as I would expect.

Also, given that these amps are often compared to a modified Marshall 2204 / 2203 (but I don't hear that in the tone), do Marshalls have the same volume issue? Just curious because I have never owned a Marshall.

I'm not sure of the technical details of the two inputs, but I know on many amps with the Marshall/Laney circuit, the 2nd input is way lower in output. It removes a lot of gain, so when you max the volume and gain, it's a lot more like a plexi than a JCM800. So, it's probably functioning normally.

That sounds about right. My brother had a 2203 for a while, and the low input was very quiet compared to the high input. I could dime the master, run the gain around half, and still talk over it. Honestly I think the low input was designed for active pickups or an external preamp.

My Laney has the two inputs and works identical to that described

Has since it was new
I just don't use the other input

Cool, good to know it's working as designed. I like having the two tonal options. Without adjuting the tone knobs using the Low input actually gives a slightly fatter/wider tone than going through the High input. It's kinda like having two slightly different amps, one vintage voiced and one 80's hotrodded vintage :1:

My Marshall 4010 did the same thing. Always sounded awesome in the low input with both the gain and volume maxed out. So, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
