Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

while i'm not a fan of super strats in general, i really like the look of those new charvels with the maple neck, black hardware, and big bold colors. it'd look pretty cool if the frets were black too now that i think about it:scratchch

Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

I have to be honest and say that the pale brownish yellow of the maple fretboard and the yellowish pale white of the body do not work together, to my eyes.

It might be the black hardware or pickguard. But somehow it doesn't look right, worse than a vintage white maple fretboard regular Strat.

Maybe that picture doesn't show the true contrasts of the black & white. This one might be better. My second choice would be the red. ;)

Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

I've got the red So-Cal, and a slime green San Dimas 1 too. These guitars I never want to put down!

I know the feeling, I really, really, really want one of these:

Too bad that it's a limited edition with only 20 made, probably never be able to buy one. It's on Ebay now, not likely in six months when I will be able to afford it. :banghead:

Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

I envy you. Does it sound & play more like a Strat or a Jackson?
I don't know about the comparison to Jacksons. The only Jackson I played regularly was a 2007 DK2M, also alder bodied, maple necked and Floyded. The Jackson was sonically dead compared to the new Charvels I own now, and its neck wasn't nearly as comfortable.

The neck is definitely more comfortable than any Strat I've ever owned. I don't know how else to describe it, other than to say the Charvel necks just feel right in my left hand. I play three Gibson Les Pauls too, and switching to a Charvel is natural. When I switch to my Strat, my hand has to take some time to adjust to it.

The sounds of my Charvels are nothing like that of a Strat. These have high output humbuckers. They don't sound like Les Pauls either. They have a sound all their own. They're loud and ballsy, yet bright and articulate. I am finding them to be very versatile too. They're as great for Led Zeppelin, Free and Black Sabbath as they are for Dokken, Twisted Sister, Ratt and Van Halen.

Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

I like that one too! the ultimate for me would be the plum color on the model with no pickguard.

Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

The white one and the red one are both badass. I would approve of either. I think I like it better without the pickguard though. I also approve of your avatar.

Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

I just picked up a Candy Purple Charvel Tele. The necks on those are unbelievable, it's made me want to start playing again. Once you pick one up you can't put it down, it just encourages you to play and shred.

The white SoCal pickguard models sold out quickly as everyone sees it as a cheaper alternative to the Jackson Adrian Smith strat.

They sound different than a Jackson soloist, Charvels have more bite and attack. The Charvel necks are a little thicker, the fretboards rounded and oiled instead of finished.

Re: REALLY wanna buy this guitar!

I was think about buying one of these before I have tried the Jackson dinky DK2M. They don't make these any more but you can still see them in some retail stores and website.

IMO, great neck comfort with Jacksons. Much better than a strat. I have tried the Charvel also. Different than Jackson but not much. Finish is quite different as mentioned above. I like the recessed floyd setup better in the jackson. Floyd on the charvel felt so high and uncomfortable to me.
