Reaper: Routing outboard effects into guitar VST

This is a problem that has stumped be ever since switching to VST amplifiers for recording and there seems to be no relevant documentation for hardware routing into a specific vst rather than a whole channel. If I have a preamp VST (in this case The Anvil from Ignite amps) and a hardware effect how do I go about routing the audio to one of my USB interface's line outs into the pedal and back to a line in? In this case the interface is an M-audio Mobile Pre

so basically i want my signal chain to be
vst's effects loop send->outboard effect(s)->vst's effects loop return

would I need to have my preamp and poweramp/cab on separate tracks or something?

I'm going to erase all those questions I had and simply bump for interest. I haven't spent enough time with Reaper, though it's sitting on a computer of mine right now. I bet your idea would work. input via instrument jack to preamp track, output to line-out. Line-out to hardware, hardware to instrument or line-in. Line-in to poweramp channel, right?

Might as well try it, right. Crank your interface volumes down and pull them up slowly. I'm wondering if there's going to be a compounded latency problem from the combined latencies of the two different tracks that are being daisy-chain interface fed.

Well I sort of worked out a poor man's way of simulating this by putting the pre power and cab on one track like usual and outputting to my MXR carbon copy and outputting that to a second track for the final result.

Thats the only way to get a usable sound for live tracking/jamming since moving my power and cab to the second track means i have to hear the asstastic preamp's raw output through my monitor. Turning off monitoring for track one means track 2 gets no input. Maybe there's a way to fix that but until then I can track with an assy tone in my ears and then play it back properly

ugh, that sounds complicated. I was running into a tiny bit of this sort of thing when I was trying to home record, so I gave up and got a POD. I hope someone's got a more useful answer for you than me. I'm going to be digging into Reaper pretty soon, so I'm eavesdropping :D

Nothing poor about this technique. This what the Auxiliary output and return busses are for on an analogue mixing console.
