Rebiasing amp

I just replaced my tubes in my peavey with Groove Tubes 6L6 and before that there were sovtek tubes in my amp. I caught the bottom of the GT package and said if your changing out the same type of tubes there no need to worry about rebiasing but if the tubes are different you need to have your amp rebiased. Um I already changed them and played with the the GT and the tone sounds a bit better but not as much as I thought it would. Will/Has this ruined by amp or can I take the tubes out and have it rebiased and still not have affected the amp?

It would take a extreme variance in tubes to actually damage your amp. Not imposable, But highly unlikely. You should get your amp biased anytime you buy new power tubes. A properly biased amp will sound optimal, And give you piece of mind you amp is operating correctly.

What GT means is if the tube RATING on the new tubes match the tube rating on the old ones, then re-biasing may not be nessasary. The fact that you're replacing 6L6's for other 6L6's isn't what GT means when they say same type of tube. Tubes are typically rated from 1 to 10 and if your old tubes show a rating of any kind, like 5 for example, then a matched set of 6L6's rated at 5 are o.k. to use withour re-biasing. Nothing changes in the amp when you don't touch the bias. You can return to other tubes, and it'll be the same. Fixed bias amps usually have the bias set at a median bias point, where most tubes will be fine. Setting the bias to the perfect setting will make the amp tighten up as much as it can.

Tubes are typically rated from 1 to 10 and if your old tubes show a rating of any kind, like 5 for example, then a matched set of 6L6's rated at 5 are o.k. to use withour re-biasing. Hope this helps.

to further clarify, if you have a set of gt6l6s tubes with a rating of 5 and you replace them with a set of gt6l6s tubes with a rating of 5 then you dont need to rebias. otherwise you do need to rebias to get the best tone
