Rebooted two old guitars. Lots of woodporn

Let's start with a photo

it started with a carved slab of mahogany and a rosewood neck. I tweaked a bit by adding a korina top, slimming down the body and installing two prails. Then, I added a new neck to the mix (wenge and bubinga, ziricote board), new pickups, new wiring and a new guitar was born. The history of the guitar kinda limited what I could do with the entire wiring and configuration but still: this is one of my favorites nowadays. She tips in a little under 9 pounds, making her a nimble sweet guitar. It's like marrying a les paul, SG and a Guild M75.

Then I took it upon me to breath a bit of life in an old stratty guitar I had. I added a 5 ply neck (bubinga/maple/wenge/maple/bubinga), added sycamore trimmings on the headstock, backplates and pickguard, installed 3 p90's, gave her a new trem (Schaller 3801). high gloss finish to boot and voila. This guitar initially came to be as a test case for myself:

- what timber would sonically dominate: core, or wings? (answer: neither).
-Would a guitar with a superhard core and superlight wings result in a fairly light guitar? (answer: no).
- if I install other necks, would the timber of the neck make a difference? (answer: oh hell yeah).
- if I install the first neck on an other body, would that make a difference? (answer: yes, body material is just as important as the neck material).
- will Franz p90's, with their lower inductance, work well in a strat-style environment? (yes, but only if used on a body with gibson-style timbers, like korina and mahogany).

The best part is: all timbers (except for the fretboards and veneers) were repurposed & reclaimed timbers.

Wow that Les Paul looks amazing! I do think it would be even better with black knobs and a switch tip (I'd also be worried about cutting myself on that uncovered tip, they're pretty sharp).

I personally don't like knobs/buttons on my blade switches so I remove them. Just my thing. Can add one if you so desire, of course :)

About the switch/knob placement on the strat: I saw this once on a VERY old strat style guitar and I really liked the idea, so I tried it, liked it and now I'm using this almost always. works for me (but can do it any shape or form you want).

About the LP: It used to be just as you see in the first pic :) that's the lineage of the same guitar. I still wanna replace one pot in that guitar, though, so the diamond shape looks more natural. Use the other hole for a toggle for splitting the humbuckers.

To each their own, of course, but to me the knob positions on the LP look a bit ugly and not very functional.

Silver:

Have you read what I just wrote. The why of the location if the knobs on the lip and what my plan is? Or are you just blabbing without reading?

No, I meant what brand/model was the LP before you modded it. Or did you build it? I thoughtit was a production guitar?

I build my own guitars :) I only buy acoustics 'off the shelve', all electrics I use now, are what I have made myself. So yeah, the new neck? that's me. The new top? That's me. The finish? Moi.

Cool! I misunderstood your first post and got that you did all the mods but didn't get that they were your own builds from the start.

I like the knob placement...I can actually use them. I also love the idea that everything is reclaimed wood.
