Recommend a Fuzz Pedal?

Been listening to the Black Keys and I'm digging the Fuzz...anyone use a Gibson Maestro or the Fender Blender? Any other suggestions?

Re: Recommend a Fuzz Pedal?

This might seem obvious coming from me or any of my coworkers, but I'm a big fan of the Tweak Fuzz. It's gotta be the most flexible fuzz out there. Give it a try! Having said that, if you want a great weird fuzz, the Fuzz Factory from zVex doesn't sound like anything out there.

Re: Recommend a Fuzz Pedal?

The old Maestro sounds cool and the Fender Blender is cool as well but I don't think I would use either as my main/only fuzz box.

There are LOTS of cool fuzzes out ther these days...

-Fulltone 69
-Fulltone 70
-Fulltone Soul Bender
-Analog Man Sun Face
-Thro Bak Fuzz Haze
-Thro Bak Stone Bender
-ZVEX Fuzz Factory (only if you have time to tweak and are very brave)
-Electro Harmonix Big Muff (and all the variations...little muff, double muff, etc)
-Ampeg Scrambler (kind of like a Fender Blender but slightly different)
-Austone Fuzz nutz (and Textone Fuzz Nutz)
-All the D*A*M Units are very cool and most of them are clones of various cool Fuzz tones

I could go on for days...there are loads of cool fuzz pedals.

What type of fuzz are you looking for??

Ah, anothet Black Keys Fan !!!

Problem with their Fuzz-tone, is, that is it not just fuzz that you hear, but also some very old low-wattage valve amps, that has a natural fuzz under-tone as you turn up the vol.
That is some MOJO that amps of today does not have !

They also use some weird fuzz boxes from the 60's and 70's.
They love their budget vintage gear, from yester-year !

This is an amp that i want to buy, because it has a great natural fuzzy tone, @ any setting after 12 o'clock !

This amp sound sooo, Black Keys / JSBX, straight into the amp, NO PEDAL NEEDED !!!

Re: Recommend a Fuzz Pedal?

Of my pedals, the Big Muff Pi is the most standard fuzz. I have an old Boss FZ-2, which I really love the sound of, especially with low-output pickups. It is a really obliterating fuzz, but can sound saxy, like a saxaphone, with the right attitude. Even playing diads on that turns the sound to noise, which is cool in some applications. I also have a ProCo RAT II, which sounds really fuzzy at high gain settings, but is totally smooth. When full-voiced chords are played through a fuzzy RAT setting, the individual notes still articulate well, which is rare with most fuzzes or distortions.

Re: Recommend a Fuzz Pedal?

As far as fuzz goes, the SD SFX02 Tweak Fuzz is a great pedal. If you're into that kind of thing.

Re: Recommend a Fuzz Pedal?

Fulltone 69, 70 and FoxRox Fuzz Foot (I believe that's the name).

I have heard rave reviews of the MudHoney as well.

Re: Recommend a Fuzz Pedal?

one word: Joe

Joe's Octavia clone is the BEST fuzz pedal my ears have ever heard.

...you also might want to check out the Little Big Muff by EHX. Great pedal, compact, runs on 9v power supply, and looks cool.
