Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

I'm looking at the Boss and the Fender custom right now. Big price difference in those two.

What would you recommend, said choices, or otherwise?

Thanks

Re: Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

Every player I have any respect for either uses the TU-2 or pays someone to.

Re: Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

If you're willing to spend some real dough, look into the Peterson StroboStomp.

However, I use the TU-2, and it's great.

Re: Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

Just picked up a TU2 after putting it off for FAR too long.

Re: Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

DO NOT get the Fender! I had one, and its supposedly "silent tuning" mode made an awful screaming noise! I got many puzzled looks from sound guys whenever I hit that thing to tune.

If it'd be the only pedal you have at your feet, I'd rather get an Intellitouch tuner: http://www.tuners.com/pt1.asp I have one and it's really practical.
Stewmac sells it for a lower price than the official one.

+1. Except for the 'I use the TU-2'-part. I use the tuner in my GT-8 mostly, and for my bass and acoustics I usually use a clip-on IntelliTuner.

hmm. I've never had a problem with mine. But the switch is starting to wear out - you really have to stomp on it. I'll probably be replacing it with the strobostomp.

I own that fender tuner, works like a charm. No problems at all and would recommend it.

Re: Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

Someone mentioned the Intellitouch tuner, so I'll just copy off whatever I posted on another forum on the same thing:

i'm currently using it.

Pros:
-----
+ It's not in your chain.
+ It tunes relatively accurately.
+ You can tune literally anything that you can clamp, bass, guitar, violin...

Cons:
-------
- Headstock should have no deadspots where you clamp, else it's very hard to get a reading
- You can't tune if your drummer is whacking behind you, as his drum vibrations will affect the Intellitouch tuner. You can grab the tuner to deaden the drum vibrations.
- It looks a little fragile. I haven't broken it; not trying my luck out.

Quirks:
--------
? You need to get used to how the tuner works. Pluck an open string, let ring for a while, then read and adjust.
? The cheaper version does not have backlight.

Re: Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

You might want to look at the Matrix tuner pedal. Its about 40$ and works great. I have 2 of them and have never had an issue with either. I don't need it to power anything else.

Re: Recommend a good tuner pedal please.

^I let go of my peterson strobostomp. It had these weird artifacts thing displayed on the screen at times, eats 9v batteries like nothing and tuning with it is an absolute pain despite what they advertised. FYI....I know how to use a strobe tuner properly and have infact use a old strobe tuner to tune my sister's piano. The peterson jumps around too much while tunning too....a true pain in the A$$ especially whdn you need to tune live in front of people. If peterson truly delivered a product that they advertised, it would've been killer.
