Recommend a strat set of pups!

Hey guys. I’m considering getting new pickups for my Fender American Standard Strat with alder body and rosewood neck. I’m looking for a single coil set. It currently has fat 50s in it and I want something that keeps the vintage sounds but a bit hotter for when distortion is used. A vintage hot style you could say is what I’m looking for. I was looking at the classic stack set by Seymour Duncan, they seemed nice and well priced. I didn’t decide if I’m looking for a noiseless or not though so I’m keeping my options open there and would like to see what you guys would recommend. Thanks guys! Can’t wait to see the reply’s!

Re: Recommend a strat set of pups!

I always recommend an Stk-S7n for the neck, an Stk-S4m for the middle and an Stk-S6b for the bridge. This is an excellent all around (and noiseless) set of Strat pickups. The S6b (Custom Stack Plus) is fairly hot, making it more than effective in the bridge position. This pickup is most used noiseless bridge pickup SD offers, and for good reason. It has plenty of bass to keep it from getting thin as well as fairly hot mids and a slightly rounded treble. It's hot, but maintains some vintage qualities.

The middle pickup (Classic Stack Plus) is the least hot of the bunch, this makes it excellent for cleans as well as provides plenty of quack in the 2 and 4 positions.

The neck position (Vintage Hot Stack Plus) could be described as a slightly hotter version of the middle pickup which lends itself well to solos on the neck and for when you want warmer and rounder sounding cleans.

^these are good recommendations. Staying with the noiseless theme, I also like the YJM Fury set, as it still sounds Stratty and works well with distortion.

I mostly used the neck pickup or neck n middle position for soloing and clean sounds. And the bridge pickup is where I do most of my rhythm and the odd song on bridge n middle. I figured I should include that.

That makes my recommend my set even more, because I use my Strat pickups the exact same way.

Really? I like hearing that I’m deffently going to check out what you recommended. Any certain kind of caps or wiring that you use with them usually?

Yes, I use 250k pots and I use different tone caps for each tone. I use a .018uf for the neck and .022uf for the middle. It honestly doesn't make too much of a difference unless you keep your tone knobs in the bottom half of their travel very often.

CS-69 set

Or your fave rail in bridge and CS-69's for mid and neck
