Recommend Cheap Humbucker Bridge Pickups

I'm talking about all these cheap pickups that people rave about (GFS, Dragonfire, Mighty Mite, etc.). I recently learned how to install my own pickups and wiring on my guitars, and I am so into I want to do it more. What I want to do is buy a few of these to try in a couple of my guitars. Both have Mahogany bodies and Rosewood fretboards. Both already have decent neck pickups so I'm just looking for Bridge pickups. One guitar I want a pickup for more of a blues to classic rock sound the other heavy blues to hard rock. Not really looking for a metal sound. I want to keep it under $40 because I'm buying a few. Also I know this question gets asked a lot so if there are any threads you can direct me to that would be great. Look forward to your suggestions. Thanks

Don't forget Duncan Designed!

Search on GFS, etc…you'll find a ton of info. Enjoy!

Duncan Designed are good pickups and can usually be had for small money.

I like the duncan designed HB-102 bridge pickup, kinda like a JB, pretty versatile for your listed genres.

Re: Recommend Cheap Humbucker Bridge Pickups

Saw a pickup labeled Duncan Performer. Are those the same thing as Duncan Designed?

Entwistle has some decent pickups right in that price range, I used to have a Neo-Dark Star (bridge) and an HDX (neck) I think I dropped like $65 for the pair on ebay. Nothing incredible but, they weren't bad for the price

Interested in a G&B DBZ (Bridge) Gold Covered Pickup?

Is yours (shipped) for $20.
Let me know! :)

Re: Recommend Cheap Humbucker Bridge Pickups

Lots of used Duncan pickups can be found for under $40 if you look around. I have bought & sold Distortions, JBs, Customs, Custom Customs, Full Shreds and Screamin Demons at or under forty bucks.

I would say these are the best bang for your buck when going "cheap"

For low cost boutique pickups the Wilde Bill Lawrence pickups are a great option to consider as well.

Re: Recommend Cheap Humbucker Bridge Pickups

Cheap? Go used. There are tons of pickups on Ebay and the trade section of this forum you can pick up cheap. If you don't like them you can easily flip them. I would suggest starting a diary or a log so you can track what you like and dont like about the pickups. Good luck.

+1. You want a good PU cheap? Buy a used American-made one for about half price. They're not much more (if any) than a new Asian PU.

I keep seeing people post these *highly optimistic* scenarios.

New Duncans (standard models, anyway) and Dimarzios go for $72-$75 new, and $50 used. You'd wait a LONG time to try to find one for $40 or less.

Gfs mean 90. Gfs crunchy pat. Their filtertron imitation humbuckers (I think their Nashville model is the most popular) . Dream 180. I think I heard good things from their pro series. Their Slick Old School set looks interesting too.

Note a lot of other models may suck so a heads up.

I second buying Duncan or Dimarzio used unless that is you buy a used GPS for even cheaper.

I haven't. Most of my American-made HB's were bought used. There's good deals to be found.
