Recommend humbuckers for a Godin freeway classic

Hi,

I have a Godin freeway classic with H-S-H configuration. It has a maple body with poplar wings. Fingerboard is rosewood. There is no coil tap for the humbuckers in 2 and 4 positions. I plan to change the humbuckers to coil tap in 2 and 4 but the current humbuckers cannot be tapped. Would like to get a nice single coil sound in 2 and 4 if possible. (have the SSL-2 SC in the middle)
Would like to gather recommendations for the neck and bridge humbuckers. It must be coil-tappable humbuckers.
Thanks.

if you want Seymour Duncans, i would suggest a set of Alnico II Pros (APH-1 b&n).

Any reason for that suggestion? Is it because they sound good when split?

Re: Recommend humbuckers for a Godin freeway classic

Ok I guess I should say more abt the sound I'm looking for :

1) Must be coil-splittable
2) neck - warm jazzy sound , sound like single coil when split and able to blend well with a SSL-2 (middle) in pos. 2 . I like to use position 2 and 3 for sweet ballady little wing/wind cries mary clean stuff...
3) bridge - I like satriani's tone. Actually I am able to get that sound with my stock bridge humbucker but it is not coil splittable
4) position 4 (mid and bridge) should have the funky strat bridge/pos4 sound for funk styles

Thanks!

APH-1 will work for all the think u mentioned... i'm not sure for the Satriani sound though. APH's are very vintage and so is your SSL and they will sound balanced. For Satriani stuff, my guess is that u 'd need a modern 'bucker. You can check out Slash for the way the APHs sound.
as you can see i got the same guitar (maple fretboard) and the only thing that put her down was the very limited pickups. You'll be very glad when u'll do the upgrade.

Ok, I've decided on a APH-1 for the neck.
How abt the Pearly gates for the bridge. Is that a modern bucker?

Re: Recommend humbuckers for a Godin freeway classic

no, it's not, but i haven't played one. i don't know if a screamin' demon would be better for what u need. it's not overpowered and it really screams!

Re: Recommend humbuckers for a Godin freeway classic

I noticed that it says that APH-1 is for bright guitars. Is the Freeway Classic considered a bright guitar? Asking coz I don't have other guitars :)

Re: Recommend humbuckers for a Godin freeway classic

it's not bright but not very bassy too. don't get stuck on the SD site descriptions anyway... think that the main goal for the most of the buckers SD makes is to fit to les pauls

Yes, use a Pearly Gates in the bridge,Satriani uses one in his live in San franciso DVD for about half of all the songs. That or a Fred

Ok! Alnico in the neck, PG in the bridge it is then!
Thanks for the help!

Re: Recommend humbuckers for a Godin freeway classic

Make sure you wire it for series/parallel rather than series/split. You'll get a much more convincing single coil sound and better cluck in the notch positions

Re: Recommend humbuckers for a Godin freeway classic

I'd go with a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. For that guitar, those pups should get you the tones you're after.

Hi, I was planning to get this combination as its hugely popular. However, my SSL-2 middle single coil is not very high output so I am guessing it would probably have volume balance issues across the positions.
