Recommend me a bridge pickup

Can anyone recommend me a good bridge pickup for classic/hard rock in an epi les paul? I am currently using a dimarzio super distortion and it's a bit too harsh for my tastes. i play alot of gnr, zeppelin, acdc.. thanks!

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

i am using an a2p on the neck now. i have heard that the PG bridge can be abit too trebly or shrill.. is that true?

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

I use a Custom in one and a Brobucker in another... both great IMO.

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

does the custom nail the gritty appetite of destruction tone? i know that it uses a ceramic magnet like the super distortion, which was kind of harshy/marshy compared to that gritty/snarly slash tone.

i've never heard of the brobucker before, i'll go check it out.. thanks!

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

Get a JB.
It`s very versatile, and it became very popular in the late 80`s/early 90`s, during the gnr era, it has a very good character for classic rock.
It`s also recommended by SD for mahogany/rosewood guitars, and with jazz in the neck it is Seymour`s favourite combo.
I have one in my Gib Explorer, does all great, from blues to metal.

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

i have a question about the A2P bridge. From what i have read, slash uses the A2P as a low output pickup and gets his tone from heavily driven marshall amps. I'm wondering if the pickup will sound weak and not as good on lesser amps. can any experienced users chime in? how does it sound through your amps?

i have actually been considering the jb for quite awhile, but i was wondering if it is going to have the same qualities as my super distortion.. because from what i understand it is a high'ish output pickup right?

Yes, high output, but warm sounding, and you just roll the volume if you want to calm it down...

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

How is the superD too harsh? If it's the high end there are a few pups I would NOT recommend.

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

its not the highs. i think its the mids. i'm not sure though. harsh might not be the word to describe it, maybe aggressive? i think the sound is fantastic though, with lotsa drive and sustain. but not the kind of sound that i am looking for.

how do you set your amp's eq up with your superD Aceman? also, how close is it to your strings?

I play the same stuff you do =) I have both Alnico II pro's in my gibson les paul classic (they are the same pups that slash uses in almost all his guitars) they ROCK!. If not the alnico II's then maybe the custom custom.

no JB for GNR or AC/DC. you need a low/medium output pup with. slash uses the Alnico II's and angus always uses vintage stock sg's and they have low output P.A.F.'s. you need an Alnico II magnet not a Alnico V mag or a ceramic because your tone will go out the window because of all the extra gain ur getting from the pickup. slash says he uses the Alnico II pro's because he prefers to get his distortion from the amp, not his pickups. and no they will not sound weak if not played through a Marshall. Slash uses a number of different amps on the Velvet Revolver albums, on "fall to pieces" he uses a Fender super champ. Im using a Peavey Valveking 112 and the Alnico II's got more balls than u will ever need. they will do slide, blues, jazz, classic rock and hard rock

that was exactly what I was thinking. i had a feeling that the high output of the ceramic magnet was the main obstacle to obtaining the kind of sound that I want. cheers mate!

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

GFS Bigmouth, Good for classic rock, metal, and anything in between. I myself replaced a Super Distortion with it and it is a fantastic sounding pickup.

just checked it out i think i'll give it a miss because it doesnt match the look of my a2p in the neck. however, this got me interested. i think its a new GFS model

Re: Recommend me a bridge pickup

yeah a new GFS Pup around - shd get one.
Besides I wd recommend a SD SH1 "59er" bridge Pup or PearlyGates or GFS 59vintage.
the EVH is to be tested. Why not start with this it is cheap.
