Recommend Me A Geetar!!

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

Take a look at some Hamer guitars. The Studio models are nice and very affordable. Les Paul's are great, but if you go that route, play a bunch of them before you buy. It's been my experience that Gibson is sometimes hit or miss with the quality control. If you're buying a new Les Paul, make sure it won't need fret or nut work as soon as you get it.

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

Thanks.. unfortunatly i don't know anyone with a gibson of any sort and except from one place i havent yet been to anywhere that seels 'em are as i said very un-cool people..and reluctantly let you play em unless your waving 'round wads of cash!

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

so your saying esp make none of their guitars in the us? not even the esp standards which i'm talking about?

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

Actually I am thinking of getting a new guitar but im not sure which. I want this guitar to be setup to play metallica stuff so I would like some kind of guitar thats good for metal. I would really like to have a floyd rose to pull of some dive bombs etc. I have about 500 pounds to spend and don't really want to go too much over.

I plan to put in some EMG's to get as close to the metallica sound as I can.

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

It all caomes down to $. How much to you want to spend? If money is a concern an Epi LP will be a good choice. If money is less of a concern get the Gibson. I would recommend a LP standard. Great guitar has lots of range. Drawback is they are heavy. After 2 sets if feels like you have a wheel barrel around your neck!!!

The Tokais (MIJ) are in my view very good guitars and they just about capture that vibe. Mine is the LS75Q (Q = Quilt top) and for the money they are going for in the UK then I do not think you will be disappointed. However you may want to think about Gibson Studios as an alternative as these are just a little bit more than the Tokais and of course have the name. The only problem is of course what are they like? I think they are other threads which are discussing the merits of Epi LPs, Studios and LPs and you might just wish to have a look at some of those. From a personal (and gigging) point of view the Tokai is all there and they not only look good they are also set up well to play. I do mostly blues and some rock with this guitar but you will be able to get whatever you want (other than the strat sounds) from it.

I have posted a picture of the guitar below so that you can see it properly:

ESP vs. Gibson

ESP vs. Gibson

First off, the ESP Standard models are made in Japan.

In early-mid 2000 I was in about the same place as you. I wanted something like an LP, so I bought an ESP Eclipse Standard. I loved that guitar at first, but over the months I started to like it less and less. The upper fret acess was great and the super huge frets made bending really easy, but those were about the only good points. The fretboard edges are very squared off which was uncomfortable, the necks are almost Ibanez-thin, and the guitar in general sounded like sh*t. In the end I unloaded the guitar (poor b*stard) in early 2002 shortly after I bought my real Les Paul.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy the ESP, but what I am saying is if you want a Les Paul, BUY ONE. It's pointless wasting money on a substitute that you'll end up selling down the road.

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

Hey Norman.... Strangly i still can't see that properly... But i was on the Tokai Uk website and thats the guitar that caught my eye ALS75Q...What do those go for over here?

When you say square off and uncomfortable that reminds me alot of an Ibanez which i think the neck is definitly too thin (IMO of course)they make it way too easy to play that way but also i find theres no life in necks so thin..But i still wouldn'r mind something thats fast but not ibanez fast..But also i don't want something monstrous either...

Thanks Guys!

One of the e-bay auctions is going for £450 at BIN but no pictures, e-mail the guy for some , I think he lives in Nottingham (lee comes from there?). Typically they go for between £650 -£750 the other auctions I think have a flame and also a quilt from the same guys. Whatever you do make sure you get one that is made in Japan. The necks will be suitable for you in that it is not of the thin type and is a bit rounded. Sorry that you cannot see the pics but maybe this may give you a better idea:

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

I deleted the pic from cache and now i can see most of the guitar now and Wow, that i one nice lookin Guitar..nice baby you got there...IMO those guitars look much much better than the Les paul Standards..My only worry now with these i that is the neck on them too big like gibsons in general, Ive played a few SG's and i do not like the necks at all..

I think i'll seriously Consider Tokai but before i go Bidding i'll have to sleep on it but they are very tempting..They also seem to change colour alot in different light..

Interesting??

What type of neck then do these have say compared to other guitars?

They have a more rounded neck (50's style) and are going to be suitable for the type of playing that I think you may be wanting. It will allow you to "dig in" and also get more sustain when you play. If you are after a slim neck or a 60's style or even a strat then this will not be for you. I have'nt got any suitable pics that can show you what this is like.

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

I see... I was looking for something thinner , like a strat neck but mabye even slightly thinner...

Re: Recommend Me A Geetar!!

Although i still havent really played a les paul properly so i guess i'll decide from there...
