Recommend me a good...no a GREAT Compressor Pedal

I had toyed around with a Boss Comp and the MXR Dyna Comp and I just gave up on compressors based on those two pedals.

I've recently have gotten the urge to venture into compressor waters lately, but if I'm goin' to take the plung again it had better be for a great compressor.

Playing style = Blues/Rock/some Country.

Price range no more than $250 - $300, but if there is a cheaper one that works justas good as the high end ones I'll try it.

Anyone try the RMC compressor when Teese was still making them?

Keeley claims to be the best. And since you're playing country, it should be noted that it's what Brad Paisley uses.

Demeter Compulator, Its what gilmour used on his last tour. For a **** good reason, I have their Fuzzulator and its built like a tank.

A lot of folks that once played the Keeley compressor have switched to the Barber Tone Press. I've never heard of a Barber Tone Press user switching to Keeley.

The neat thing about the Tone Press is that it doesn't go in series with your signal, but runs Parallel ! You can blend in as much of the compression you want.

Personally, I can't stand compressors. I like to think of my picking hand and guitar volume as two gain knobs and I love to put accents in my solos that way and the compressors I used completely killed that.
However, for some clean rhythm stuff, a bit of compression might be nice to smooth "unwanted accents" out a bit. So I might get a compressor in the future again and the Barber is on top of my list.

And it's only US$ 149,95 !

i used an alesis 3630 - it's a rackmount but for bass it sits nicely on top of my amp and it's really adjustable.. sounds really good!

i dunno if the other pedals mentioned have a more 'musical' compression or something, but there you go. mine does a job!

Re: Recommend me a good...no a GREAT Compressor Pedal

im gonna have to say the analogman bicomp. you can get that classic ross compression or the orange squeeze...whatever suits the moment

Re: Recommend me a good...no a GREAT Compressor Pedal

I've got a Keeley 4 knob comp which I thought was supposed to be the best of the bunchand I don't like it as much as I thought I would. It just doesn't sound very natural to me, it's hard to explain but I can't get on with it. So... it's going on the Bay and I'm getting a Barber Tone Press as this has been recommended to me by some one who's had both... and he still has the Barber!

Re: Recommend me a good...no a GREAT Compressor Pedal

I really like the Carl Martin I got recently but the comp side of my RT 66 has worked well too, better than I expected, and I'm loving the OD side for a boost so the CM hasnt seen much use lately.

Want a cheap one? I bought a Guyatone. I'm pretty impressed with this little pedal!

The BYOC gets great reviews, and its less than $100, but of course it is a kit- you have to build it.

+1

It's two compressors in one. I also love my Boss CS-2. (Note that this is the earlier CS-2, not the current production model CS-3.) Check eBay if the CS-2 interests you; they usually crop up there.

I have the HBE CPR Compressor and really like it.

On Strats and Teles (or anything with single coil pickups I s'ppose) it sounds really nice, and doesn't colour the tone much. It's 1 of the most 'neutral' sounding guitar compressors I've ever used :)

***Additional***

I love the sound of this Compressor when used with my Strats, Tele and Music Master (all with single coil pickups) but don't really like it when used with a Humbucker equipped guitar.

I agree. That's the one I use. Lew
