Recommend me a Hamer.

I hear a lot of forum members sing the praises of Hamer guitars. I've looked around, but there are no local dealers that I know of that sell the U.S. made ones, and there all over the board on Ebay. What's a good Les Paul style Hamer that is U.S. made, and can be had for a reasonable price. By reasonable I mean around $600 used, if there is such a guitar that can be had for that price.

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

the single cutaway "lp type" models are called Monacos...i don't think you'll be able to find one for $600...they usually go for around $1100 used...there is the Monaco mahogany though...you might be able to get close there...!?

if double cutaway is ok...then you'll have a better chance...try a mid 90's special if you like p-90's!?

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

Two good choices would be the Studio (previously called the Archtop Studio) or the non-carved top FM Special (FM standing for flamed maple). Just make sure that the headstock says USA.

Agreed. Typical price of a nice used piece will usually be $700-$750. You can find them cheaper if you're patient, but too many people know about them now to see the cheaper ones every day.

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

You don't need a Hamer. ;)

Look at the FM's. I got my '81 for $399 at a pawn shop and it's spectacular. :burnout:

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

Hamer Sunburst. Definitely one of my favorite models. Not the way they looked so much as the way they resonated. WOW!

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

Those are the ones to look for, but you'll have trouble finding one for $600. They're going for over $2k new. They're worth just about any price you find them for, though, as long as you're willing to pay that price for a well made guitar. I've never played anything quite like one.

He's right, you know. I could go through the whole litany of bad stuff about them, but you already know.

Let us know if you find a cheap one. We need to know so that we can avoid it, so give us a link to avoid...lol

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

EXACTLY...if anyone should know it's gotta be Hamerplyr.

Whatever you do, alert me if you stumble upon a Monaco in '59 burst under $1000.00

Those are to be avoided at all costs!!! :burnout:

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

I'll do y'all one better. If I see one, I'll buy it so you don't risk coming across it yourselves. ;)

Re: Recommend me a Hamer.

if you find one...DO NOT TELL ME...i don't wanna start selling my organs on the black market!!!
