recommend me a pedal.....

I wanted to know what the best and preferrably cheap boost type pedal is. I want a pedal that you can turn on when you solo to help your solos stick out, something that will up the output a little but does not color your sound. something that simply makes your sound a little thicker and louder for solos in a 2 guitar band so when you solo it cuts above everything else and does not get lost in the mix. do you understand what I'm asking? thanks

Re: recommend me a pedal.....

I use a MXR Micro Amp and it can boost lightly to more intense overloading distortion on your amp input. Works great with my Rat. MrHM :smokin:

Look at my thread about the guitarist magazine od shootout. The Crowther hotcake is ideal for your uses, and is cheap for boutique. HC shows a US $110-150 price being paid for them.

Hotcakes are great.

These guys have them:

You can buy direct from Paul Crowther, but I don't know his contact details.

Check out the glowing reviews on HC:

Re: recommend me a pedal.....

I don't need an od or distortion pedal I already have the distortion from my amp I just need something to stomp on to lift my solos up above everything while keeping the same tone just a little louder and thicker, then I can turn it off when I'm done playing lead.

Re: recommend me a pedal.....

ive heard good things about the SD pickup booster. its not overdrive or distortion, just a booster.

Re: recommend me a pedal.....

Even better, get an EQ pedal. That way you can control exactly which band of frequencies you'll be boosting and by how much. There would also be far less of a chance that you'd be colouring your sound in ways you don't want, except for noise if the pedal isn't very good. Even then, you could cut the frequencies where the noise is most prevalent.

Re: recommend me a pedal.....

I use a Rogue compressor. It's super cheap, and I use it just to boost solos. I set the level at about 8, attack at 0 (to prevent pick attack from being squashed down), and sustain at about 5. So you get a signal boost and additional sustain to boot! Mine is made of plastic, but I've never had a problem with the thing breaking, and I've used it in live situations for the last couple years. I just keep it in its original box, and throw it in my duffel with my cables and other pedals.

Unfortunately, I just looked on the Musicians Friend website and didn't see the Rogue pedal offered so they may not make them any longer. However, there is a DOD there on sale for $40, which actually would be a better made pedal than my Rogue. There's also a Danelectro and a Sabine compressor on sale, but I'd steer clear of them. Check out the link, and you'll be all set for less than 50 bills.
