Recommend Me a Pickup for a Kramer Focus (Baretta type)

The focus 1000 is a Baretta style guitar. Strat body, alder...

In the past, I've been more of a distortion class kind of player..

Dimarzio Super Distorition DP100
SD Hotrails

The only two other humbuckers I have experience with (besides El Diablos, but that's a different story), are the

SD Pearly Gates and the
Gibson USA 57 Classics

Both of which I was pleasantly surprised at how sufficient the gain was on these.

So, do I need another distorition class for this guitar, or should I branch out and try something else like a JB....

I'll be playing Rage against the machine, 80's metallica, mastodon, opeth, etc.

What amp? What fx?

But I'm feeling maybe an X2N or perhaps a Distortion. Depends on your taste for bass thickness vs Treble.

You could meet in the middle with a Duncan Custom

The JB is a GREAT fit for those guitars. The Custom would work well too.

Re: bass vs . Treble . I would choose treble over bass slightly. I like to hear the clarity in Palm mutes but I like to feel them too, if that helps.

Reading the description on the DC, it says it's like a beefier PAF. Sounds great, guess I'll have to go over to YT to hear it.

I say go with the Duncan Distortion second choice would be a JB.

Why this one ?

The DD has a very compact, punshy sound the way you expect from a ceramic heavy-hitter. But in addition to that it has a high-pitched scream to it so that it is useful for many more things than just heavy riffage.

It also works well in a wide variety of guitars and doesn't fall apart in some like the JB does.

Don't worry. The JB never falls apart in superstrats.

The main criticisms of the JB are loose bass response and piercing treble frequencies. The loose bass response can be remedied to a large extent by using short pole pieces that don't extend beyond the pickups baseplate. The piercing highs can be remedied by swapping the magnet for a unoriented Alnico 5, Alnico 2 or Alnico 8 magnet.

Some people don't gel with it like others do. It's a love it or hate it pup around here but those who do like it love it like nothing else.
