Recommend me good tubes for my Rectoverb... please

The stock tubes kinda have a certain "hardness" to them, no real sparkle or smoothness, just mainly very crunchy (I think stock Mesa tubes are Sovteks). I've heard many people say this and I hear it more and more. What would be some good tubes to smooth out the response... smoother, warmer cleans and OD? I know it's a Rectifier and it's gonna be crunchy by nature but something that'll smooth it out would be great. I've heard many people say they changed to a different brand tube and made a HUGE difference in tone and smoothness.

I'm running 6L6's but I've considered EL34's just to try them out.

Also, any good preamp tubes?

Thanks,
Nathan

My JJs are very smooth as I'm sure other people will attest to that. That may do wonders for you.

JJ 6L6 all the way.

I talked to a Mesa tech who steered me away from EL34s for my Duel Rectifier because he said the amp is really designed to run with the 6L6 power tubes and they just have it so people have the option to run the EL34s but highly recommend the 6L6. I think you'll find the JJs are smooth and warm. Check out Euro tubes.

JJ's and Svets for Boogie power sections. The Mesa 454 tube is just a relabled Svetlana. I can personally attest to how good JJ's sound in a Boogie.

I just retubed my single rectifier with JJ 6L6's and ECC83S's, and I really liked the 6L6 power tubes. Strangely enough, I ended up changing the first two preamp tubes back to new Mesa 12AX7's, and they just sounded better to my ears (I wanna try EH's and GT 12AX7M's next). A balanced phase inverter preamp tube will definitely help you, and Eurotubes as well as other places can hook you up. Hope this helps. :)
