Recommend me some cheap, hot Strat pickups

My 7 year old son has decided that he doesn't like the pickups in his Squier Mini Strat anymore.

He wants it to sound more rock and roll.

Any good, cheap, recommendations for a set of rails or similar hum cancelling Strat sized pickups?
I don't want to get junk for him, but he's 7, so I don't want to give him the gold standard either. I just want it to sound hotter and keep him interested in playing.

Thanks,
Andy

GFS makes a single sized humbucker for like $30. You could always scour eBay for a used Hot Rails, also.

It's funny a 7 year old would care about pickups. He has a more discerning ear than I had at 15 :)

I think he just wants to sound like dad. I have Carvin AP11's in most of my single coil guitars, but I just picked up a 92 PRS and he wants a blue "Wavy Front," guitar like mine......
I have a DiMarzio PAF 36th in the neck and the HFS in the bridge, this guitar sings, croons, and flat out screams.
He hears me hold a not for about a minute, and really wants to do the same thing.

I was looking for GFS's on flea bay but didn't find any. I found Dragon Fire, are they basically the same made in Korea pickups?

I haven't tried the GFS rails but did once put a set of their $14 a set generic overwound ceramics in a Squier project needing repair- definitely more power

I don't know about dragon fire. I've bought gfs pickups direct from their site, though. Plenty cheap new.

kids these days are freaking unbelievable. yours has seemingly has an expensive taste at 7. i've feeling he might just not settle for something cheap either.

anyways, i've used GFS 'lil killers' (their single coil sized rail humbuckers). they have them in 3 output levels (6k/10k/15k), i bought the middle one (for neck pickup) because there were many complaining that the 6k was too weak. i've had mixed results with it, played clean it is middy with not enough highs for me. under heavy gain it has its uses. 15k as i've read is a good bridge pickup.

Re: Recommend me some cheap, hot Strat pickups

Thanks guys! I'll check them out today.

I don't think he's wanting more expensive, although the PRS wasn't cheap, he just wants more output. It's funny, my wife has him totally into Country, but when he hangs out with me, it's all about the RAWK!!!

I don't think he likes the way the Strat looks. I have a 90's Japanese Strat with a Floyd, and he likes that one.
A new set of pickups and a paint job and I think he'll like it just fine!
