Recommend me some tele pups.

Hey, I'm planning on getting a fernandes 62 custom reissue tele and I want to know what duncans I should put in it because I have heard the stock pickups blow. I played a fender american deluxe tele that has noiseless pups in it I think and I liked the sound, I also liked the sound of a highway 1 tele i tried. I need a bridge pickup that has that tele snap and is not thin at all, I don't play country so I don't need super bright. It needs to be thick and snappy, I don't think I want anything like the hotrails though. And for the neck I need something that is really sweet and not muddy, maybe something sorta stratty sounding like on the wind cries mary or little wing. Thanks guys

You got it?!!

It's gonna rock, bro! :headbang:

For the bridge, you might like the JD lead. I got one in my Fernandez 50's style and I love it. You described it. Thick and snappy. I'm not a big fan of tele pickups (covered ones, at least), so I was thinking of taking the plunge and ordering a Duncan CS Tele a'la Strat neck pickup.

Re: Recommend me some tele pups.

i use strat pups in my tele neck positions. the pickguard needs to be modified a little but i think a ssl1 would be great for what you want.

as far as the bridge i love the jd, great fatter smoother tele type sound. still very tele like but not as spikey. i also like the qp tele lead but its much thicker and has a more rock type tone

Re: Recommend me some tele pups.

I agree with jeremy - I like the JD bridge for a little fatter, warmer tone in the bridge of my AS tele

I'm still searching for the right neck pickup, though .... right now I have a Hot neck, which sounds good, but I'm likely going to try a couple others. My friend Pete uses a Firebird pickup in the neck of his vintage tele, and I'd like to try that ... fortunately, AS tele are routed for a humbucker already in the neck, so you have a few choices with those ... I would think the RI has vintage routs though

Re: Recommend me some tele pups.

Jeremy, was it you that told me Jerry Donahue uses the APS-2 for the neck pickup and the Jerry Donahue for the bridge? I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my James Burton Tele. I temporarily removed the JD so I could try the Custom Shop set MJ wound for me. Now that I know I love that set, I'm going to move it to my Nocaster or '54 Tele and put the Jerry Donahue back in the James Burton Tele. I was thinking about using a Strat pickup for the neck position in that guitar and was leaning towards the APS-2. But I might go with a Phat Cat neck! I still haven't tried that one. In any case, the Jerry Donahue is as good as the guys are saying: it's my favorite "stock" Duncan Tele bridge pickup. Fat, strong and quacky...sounds almost like a P-90 somedays. Lew

You'll love it. That's the neck pickup MJ wound me to go with the hot Tapped Tele bridge pickup she also wound for me.

Sounds like a Strat neck pickup in a little nickel covered Tele neck pickup package. Brightest, strongest and clearest covered Tele neck pickup I've tried.

Re: Recommend me some tele pups.

Include my name among the JD-fans as well. Great pickup.

My experience with tele leads is not as extensive as those guys above. But among the ones I own (SD Broadcaster; RG Muy Grande; Rolph's 50's; JD; Fralin Blues SP) I love the JD and Fralin Blues SP the most.

I hope so. Right now I'm running my JD paired with an SM-1 at the neck, and while very cool, I do feel like I've given up a bit in the middle position as opposed to my 69RI Thinline with the Vintage Rythm and Broadcaster Lead.

Re: Recommend me some tele pups.

if you liked the noiseless from fender then you might want to try a set of stack pickups. it won't sound quite like a tele, but you don't want it to sound like a vintage tele right?

Re: Recommend me some tele pups.

yep, I won the auction. I think I'm gonna get the JD but what for the neck? alnico 2 pro tele for the neck or should I get the ss1 strat pickup?
