Recommend SC sized hum?

Hey everyone. Hoping for a recommendation. I have a Strat Am Pro II that I’d like to put a single coil size humbucker in the bridge. I use this guitar at open blues/funk jams, and often go into a backline amp without any pedals… so rhythm is played on the chimey neck position and I’ll switch to bridge when it’s my turn for leads. So I was thinking it would be cool to try something that cuts through a live mix a little better than the stock pickup.

Do I want output? Mids? Jb Jr, Lil 59, Hot Rails, Super Distortion?

If I were going for funk and blues I would go with a 59. That being said I play both funk and blues on the neck pickup including my leads. If it were my axe, I would put an SD in there for the times I want to rip it up. The volume can always be backed off as needed. Just my flavor and style.

My choice for a good solo sound with output and mids is either a Little 59 or a Red Devil.

into a backline amp, id put a hotrails in there with a series/parallel switch. series for thick solos, parallel for brighter/cleaner solos

I play most of my funk/blues on a strat style guitar with low output neck and neck/mid positions but like to have a much more powerful and middier (at least less plinky) bridge pickup for gainy solos. The trick is getting something that sounds different, but not so different you need to mess with your amp and guitar controls every time you switch pickups. I'm a fan of the SSL-6 for this - it kicks up the output a bit and is middier with a bit of compression but still with some single coil characteristics (noiseless version would be the STK-S6). If you want to go even ballsier, a quarter pounder will give you some really nice thick mids and a more compressed volume boost while still loosely holding on to the single coil feel. Both of these will hum though.

I think the little '59 sounds inferior to the full sized version, but it might work great if you want a humbucker-y tone from your strat bridge with no routing.

The cory wong clean machine bridge pickup is noiseless and it sounds like a strat, but with a beefier mid range and a little more output. Doesnt overpower single coils like some humbuckers can

i have that in a guitar, its good. still thick in series but not overly hot

That's what I do with my STK-S7 pickup. It's not an humbucker but a real single-coil with just enough mids and beef. Have one tone knob wired for it and cut highs as you want.

Maybe Duncan STK-S7, or Fast Track 1. The tone is similar, but Fast Track 1 is less fizzy with gain.

I agree with the Chopper idea if you want more of a true humbucker tone.
