I have a Soldano Reverb-O-Sonic that I love. But, after five or six years, you start to find fault. Anyway, here is what I would like to shape:
On the clean side, I LOVE the amp's breakup, but it comes a bit too early. I'd like a smidge more headroom.
On the crunch channel, things tend to get a little mashed. I love that smooth Soldano overdrive, but would like more string to string definition and a better cut through the mix. Essentially, I want it to gig closer to the way it sounds at home by myself.
Stock it has (5) 12AX7s. I am not certain that I need to switch type (though I am open to suggestions), but they might not be of the highest quality, so maybe just a better 12AX7 might do the trick? Any thoughts? I know swapping the preamp tubes won't do miracles, but I'm only looking for that last 5-10%. Power tubes are 6L6's (I'm using the GT6L6GEs).
